Overview
The Assistant Body Shop Manager supports the Body Shop Manager in ensuring the efficient, profitable, and safe operation of the Body Shop/Collision Center in alignment with TEC Vision, Mission, Values, and policies/procedures. This role assists in managing day-to-day operations, fostering valued customer relationships, and contributing to steady business growth. The Assistant Manager will collaborate closely with the Body Shop Manager to meet performance goals and KPIs, helping to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. Responsibilities
Assist the Body Shop Manager with tracking and analyzing department performance, managing expenses, and making labor decisions.
- Support in preparing and monitoring monthly and annual business results and provide insights to the Body Shop Manager to ensure growth and profitability. Help manage A/R and A/P, ensuring timely explanations for month-end close and results.
- Work alongside the manager to implement financial strategies based on data and reporting tools.
Support the Body Shop Manager in day-to-day operations and drive process improvements. - Actively participate in daily shop walkthroughs to identify operational bottlenecks and communicate priorities.
- Help implement quality control procedures and ensure a clean, safe, and well-organized facility.
- Reinforce safety measures across the department and assist in the continuous improvement of workflows.
- Take initiative to resolve operational issues in collaboration with the Body Shop Manager.
- Assist in building and maintaining customer relationships by supporting prompt, high-quality service and addressing complaints or issues under the guidance of the Body Shop Manager.
- Participate in customer outreach and engagement efforts, seeking feedback and helping implement changes to improve customer satisfaction.
- Serve as a resource to customers when the Body Shop Manager is unavailable, ensuring continuity in service and problem resolution.
- Assist the Body Shop Manager in leading the team, ensuring clear communication of goals and expectations.
- Provide day-to-day support to employees, offer feedback, coaching, and help with performance evaluations.
- Assist in the hiring process, scheduling, and developing training programs.
- Help maintain appropriate staffing levels and cross-train employees to ensure operational flexibility.
- Enforce safety protocols, and ensure employees are following proper safety procedures.
- Work closely with the Body Shop Manager to foster positive relationships with business partners, suppliers, and other departments.
- Assist in managing vendor relationships, coordinating with insurance companies, and ensuring high-quality service delivery.
- Communicate effectively across the team and with external stakeholders to drive collaborative problem-solving and achieve department goals.
- Support the Body Shop Manager in aligning department activities with TEC's values and core principles.
- Act as a role model by adhering to high ethical and professional standards.
- Assist in cultivating a culture of teamwork, accountability, and friendly competition, ensuring that team members understand the connection between their work and TEC's success.
- Step in to fill leadership roles when necessary and encourage adherence to TEC's value proposition.
- Stay informed about industry developments and assist the Body Shop Manager in evaluating and implementing new technologies and procedures.
- Support professional development for team members by helping identify training opportunities and skill-building resources.
- Prioritize your own growth as a body shop leader by seeking out relevant learning and development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-3 years of successful supervisory or team lead experience in a body shop or repair setting, with a demonstrated ability to support business objectives and lead team members
- Recent experience managing customer relationships and supporting positive client outcomes
- Experience with health and safety protocols in a paint booth/body shop, including respirator safety and basic understanding of state and local emissions regulations
- Familiarity with warranty repair processes and working with insurance claims
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
- Knowledge of truck or heavy equipment repair, paint, repair and quality standards
- Knowledge and understanding of automotive/trucking industry
- Sound business acumen with ability to analyze, prioritize, identify, and execute solutions
- Excellent people management, coaching and motivational skills
- MS Office experience, knowledge of estimate systems (Mitchel, Adjustrite etc)
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to build relationships with internal and external contacts
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Valid driver's license; CDL preferred
- Ability and willingness to wear a half face respirator as needed
- Ability to visit customers and occasionally travel to our other locations
Compensation
The base pay range for this position is $33.77 to $42.21.
