Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions has the privilege and responsibility of being the primary point of contact for students seeking admission to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as undergraduates. In its role evaluating first-year and transfer students, the office works tirelessly to identify, recruit, admit, and welcome students who will positively contribute to our campus, state, and nation. The office also supports students by providing academic counseling, sponsors hundreds of events encouraging students to further their education, and works to enhance the image of the University locally and nationally. Members of the office understand that their work is intensely public and is closely followed by students and their families; secondary-school teachers and administrators; University faculty and staff; lawmakers; and media. |
Position Summary |
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a hard-working, caring, and collaborative professional to serve as the Student Information Specialist in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The position will focus primarily on transferring college credit - the awarding of credit for courses taken by both incoming and current students. This position will take a lead role in the awarding of transfer credit and will delegate the awarding of transfer credit to other team members. This position will oversee the work of the team and will provide relevant feedback and make corrections as needed.
The Student Information Specialist position will be expected to co-lead transfer credit processes to include:
transfer course approvals, transfer course re-evaluations, updating Connect Carolina transfer credit tables, and awarding exam credit. The position will complete transfer credit pre-evaluations for various populations including Athletics, Sophomore Guarantee recipients, and Professional Program applicants and military personnel. The Student Information Specialist will award dual enrollment transfer credit for first-year students (to include
NCSSM transfer credit) and complete transfer credit evaluations for the incoming transfer class each fall.
This position will work closely with the Study Abroad Office to equate course equivalencies for the Carolina Global Launch (
CGL) program and complete credit projects introduced to our office by the
UNC System Office.
This position co-leads training opportunities within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and helps empower staff to answer questions and provide advice about transfer credit on behalf of the office. The Student Information Specialist counsels prospective and current students on course credit options, ensuring our work coincides and supports the Office of Undergraduate Admission's priorities and the University's strategic plan. This position also provides great care to prospective students and other guests of the office, whether at the front desk in Jackson Hall, by telephone, or by email and will be expected to travel to North Carolina Community Colleges for the purpose of recruiting and counseling prospective transfer applicants.
This position may also be asked to perform other administrative and clerical duties as assigned. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Must have customer service experience, and experience multi-tasking and meeting deadlines. Candidate should also possess excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organization and time management skills; and ability to problem-solve and apply policies and procedures to resolve complex situations. Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel and Windows is required, as well as experience performing detail-oriented data entry. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Experience working with the public in a university setting is preferred. Preferred candidate will have experience exercising independent judgment, as well as managing and coordinating workflow activities. Experience working with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive in nature preferred. |

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
