GENERAL FUNCTIONS:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The School Age and Camp Assistant Director is responsible for the implementation of high-quality School Age (Y BASE) and Camp programming. This position will be responsible for direct implementation of high-quality Before and After School and Camp programming at multiple sites. This position will be responsible for quality facilitation of innovative curriculum and activities at after school sites and camp that ensures participant's development occurs in a fun, healthy, and safe environment. The work week may include early morning, late afternoon, weeknights, and occasional weekend events.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:



  1. Responsibilities for this position are determined by school year and summer seasons; during the school year, directly serving in before and after school programming and during the summer serves as onsite camp leadership for West Suburban or Elmbrook camp sites.
  2. Provides direct service for multiple offsite program activities that meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Through direct service, assists in achieving implementation of best practices at each school year site and camp during the summer.
  3. Serve as a role model to staff and participants and act as the on-site supervisor of the Y BASE staff, and camp programs when applicable.
  4. In collaboration with Before and After School and Camp Director, maintain and monitor school age lesson plans and activities during the school year and camp related activities during the summer.
  5. In collaboration with Before and After School and Camp Director, help facilitate and implement weekly newsletters and communication to families.
  6. Build a professional collaboration with local school district administration and staff to develop programming that aligns with district values, policies, and procedures.
  7. Monitors daily program operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  8. Maintains supplies for all program activities.
  9. Maintain accurate staff and child records at all times.
  10. Assists in facility usage for program activities and events.
  11. Assists in YMCA fundraising activities and special events including Annual Support Campaign.
  12. Models relationship-building skills in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.
  13. Responsible for strict adherence to all Association policies and procedures as well as State of Wisconsin licensing rules. Conducts annual review of those policies and procedures.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.
  15. Employees are held responsible for all duties of the job.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:



  1. Must be at least 21 years of age and have and have 240 hours of experience in an approved education setting.
  2. Must meet all Child Care Licensing requirements including one of the following: Two DCF-approved courses in early childhood education (credit or non-credit); a Wisconsin Preschool or Infant-Toddler Credential; 48 credits from an institution of higher education with at least 3 credits in early childhood education; an Associate's degree or higher in early childhood education; a Child Development Association credential; or otherwise qualified as a Teacher through The Wisconsin Registry.
  3. Bachelor's degree in education or related field preferred.
  4. Minimum of one-year related experience working with school-aged children is required along with a minimum of one-year working in a camp setting.
  5. Must be able willing to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, Abusive Head Trauma, Mandated Reporter, and Wisconsin Registry certification.
  6. Must have a sincere interest and ability to comprehend needs and develop positive outcomes in children from diverse populations.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others.
  8. Ability to relate effectively with diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  9. Strong written and oral communication skills required.
  10. Exhibit the core values of caring, respect, honesty, and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.
  11. Must have a current driver's license and ability to travel to multiple work sites during a workday.
  12. Schedule must be flexible in order to serve a variety of shifts at multiple locations as needed during the work day.


WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. and work indoors and outdoors; must be able to assume postures in low levels to allow physical and visual contact with children; see and hear well enough to keep children safe; and engage in physical activity with children.
