You must currently live in northern Utah or be willing to relocate to northern Utah to be considered for this position. This person will lead product development initiatives, mentor junior team members, and bring cutting-edge food science to life. Product Formulation & Optimization:
- Lead the formulation of food products that adhere to quality, safety, cost, and nutritional standards.
- Explore new ingredients and functional components, conducting research to enhance product offerings.
- Design and execute experiments to assess product stability, sensory characteristics, and shelf life.
- Collaborate across departments (e.g., Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs, Supply Chain, and Customers) to ensure formulations meet regulatory requirements and ingredient sourcing specifications.
Product Development & Innovation:
- Drive end-to-end development of new products, from initial concept through to successful commercialization.
- Use market insights and consumer trends to shape the creation of innovative products that meet customer needs.
- Oversee sensory testing and gather feedback from customers and internal stakeholders to refine prototypes.
- Support scaling up processes and pilot production runs to ensure smooth transitions into large-scale manufacturing.
Mentorship & Team Leadership:
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior food scientists and technicians, fostering their growth and development.
- Lead training initiatives, empowering team members with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their roles.
- Review and provide constructive feedback on experimental designs, reports, and data interpretation.
- Cultivate a collaborative environment that encourages learning and knowledge-sharing across the team.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Communication:
- Collaborate closely with internal teams, including supply chain, operations, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless product development processes.
- Communicate complex technical details effectively to non-technical stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Develop strong relationships with suppliers to stay ahead of ingredient innovations and availability.
Compliance & Quality Assurance:
- Ensure all formulations and processes comply with food safety regulations and customer specifications.
- Conduct risk assessments related to allergens, microbial stability, and shelf life, addressing any potential issues proactively.
- Work with the QA team to troubleshoot and resolve any quality concerns, ensuring continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Expertise in food product formulation, sensory analysis, and food safety regulations.
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring junior team members and driving cross-functional collaboration.
- Exceptional problem-solving abilities, with strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical, with an ability to adapt to different audiences.
