Pay Range

$42.29 - $48.98 Hourly

This position is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement and step structure. Step placement will be determined after your qualifications are fully assessed during the interview process.


Job Description

We're looking for a Plumber/Pipefitter to perform a wide variety of journey-level plumber/pipefitter activities including layout, fabrication, installation, and repair of plant piping systems designed to transport a variety of liquid and gaseous substances. You will provide minor modifications, alterations, and maintenance services including service plumbing to all LLNL facilities and utilities. This position is in the Maintenance Production Division within the Infrastructure Maintenance and Utilities Department and may require work at Site 300 which is located in Tracy, California

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Layout, fabricate, install, repair, and troubleshoot commercial and industrial piping and equipment; leak detection; line locating, and testing of piping systems utilizing tools and equipment of the trade. May be required to work from system drawings.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment, according to specifications, by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Repair and install underground mechanical utilities (city water, sewer, etc.).
  • Make decisions jointly with coworkers that involve techniques, guidelines, and procedures that are well defined.
  • Provide effective customer service, interacting with administrative, supervisory, and craft personnel.
  • Prepare standard reports including permits, deficiency forms, and preventative maintenance work requests.
  • Use motor vehicles in the transport of materials throughout the facility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Completion of apprentice training program and/or basic journey-level skills, knowledge, and experience in the field of service repair, rough-in, top out and finish plumbing utilizing tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Basic journey-level skills, knowledge and experience in fabrication, installation, and repair of process piping systems.Proficient in layout and installation of piping systems.
  • Knowledge and experience using measuring instruments, glue, solvents, and adhesives.
  • Knowledge and experience in installation and repair of underground sanitary sewer systems.
  • Ability to use independent judgment and decision making to provide best method to complete the task.
  • Effective customer service and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively in writing and verbally with technical, administrative, and management personnel and work effectively independently or as a part of a team.
  • Basic knowledge of personal computers and associated software to prepare logs and reports, send and receive e-mails, perform computer-based training, and timekeeping entry.
  • Basic knowledge of safety and OSHA laws and regulations.
  • Valid California driver's license.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Current certification in pipe welding.
  • Current certification in high-pressure installation.
  • In-depth understanding and knowledge of the Uniform Plumbing Code Book.

Site 300

Site 300 is an experimental test site operated by LLNL. Situated on 7,000 acres in rural foothills approximately six miles southwest of downtown Tracy and 15 miles southeast of Livermore, Site 300 hosts approximately 200 employees with expertise in such fields as engineering, chemistry, biology, and environmental restoration. Employees assigned to work at Site 300 may be exposed to the organism that causes San Joaquin Valley Fever (coccidioidomycosis).

Security Clearance

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.

Davis Bacon Act

The Laboratory performs a variety of work, including some that may fall under Davis Bacon Act requirements. When work scope falls under this Act, the Laboratory complies with the prevailing wage requirements.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities requireseparate approval. Hearing aids without wireless capabilities or wireless that has been disabled are allowed in Limited Areas, Secure Space and Transit/Buffer Space within buildings.
