ROLE SUMMARY:

The SOX Controls Manager will be responsible for leading and supporting efforts to improve the design, documentation, and operational efficiency of SOX compliance processes. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of SOX requirements, internal controls, and process optimization, with a focus on improving the quality of control documentation and driving continuous improvements within the SOX framework.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • SOX Documentation: Lead efforts to enhance and streamline SOX control documentation, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Process Efficiency: Identify areas of inefficiency within SOX compliance processes and work cross-functionally to design and implement solutions that drive process improvements and reduce manual effort.
  • Control Design and Testing: Collaborate with business process owners to ensure SOX controls are properly designed, implemented, and tested in line with industry best practices. Review and evaluate controls to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • SOX Compliance Support: Assist in the preparation and execution of the annual SOX testing plan. Coordinate with internal and external auditors, ensuring timely and accurate completion of control testing and remediation of any deficiencies identified.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with departments such as Finance, IT, Legal, and Operations to ensure that SOX controls are integrated into day-to-day business processes and operations, and to support initiatives that improve SOX compliance and operational performance.
  • Training and Guidance: Provide training and guidance to internal teams on SOX compliance, control documentation best practices, and process improvements to promote a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Reporting: Maintain clear, comprehensive records of control design, testing, and any process enhancements implemented. Prepare and present regular reports on progress, risks, and improvements to senior management. Manage the deliverables to target all completion timelines.
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay current on changes to SOX regulations and industry best practices. Continuously assess and recommend improvements to ensure the company's SOX program remains efficient, effective, and aligned with evolving regulations.



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 8+ years of experience in SOX compliance and internal audit
  • Experience in SOX compliance/internal audit in the life sciences industry or experience in SOX compliance/internal audit for a consulting firm, placed in the life sciences industry.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPA, CIA, or CISA certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience in SOX compliance/internal audit in life sciences, biotech, or similar industries.
  • Strong understanding of ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday) and their integration with financial and operational processes.
  • Proven experience in evaluating, designing, and implementing controls in a system transformation or rollout context.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, with a track record of leading cross-functional teams.
