Position Description
Employees in this classification provide support in an assigned research laboratory conducting specified phases of research projects. Performs work independently and responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory research projects. Performs work independently and responsible for developing new procedures and techniques to be utilized in the laboratory and in experiments, and new applications for standard procedures and techniques. Work is performed under usual laboratory conditions. Some hazards maybe present due to use of radioactive, carcinogenic or other potentially harmful substances. Responsibilities include ensuring overall cleanliness of the laboratory and equipment, and for ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of necessary supplies. May instruct or direct work of subordinate laboratory personnel.

Major/Essential Functions
  • The position is to probe the mechanism of P-glycoprotein, a protein involved the multidrug-resistance of cancers, purify mutant enzymes for structure-function analyses and examine the polyspecific drug binding sites.
  • The project involves techniques such as biochemistry, molecular biology, yeast cell culture, enzymology and biophysical methods, and will have the opportunity to expose to state-of-the-art techniques.
  • The successful applicant must be familiar with the P-glycoprotein literature, self-motivated, enthusiastic and highly devoted.


Required Qualifications
Master's degree in one of the sciences, or equivalent combination (6 years) of job-related experience and college education. Experience may be substituted for college education on a year for year basis.
