DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Senior Center Operator 1, you will serve as an assistant to the director of a multi-purpose senior center which functions as a community focal point. You will work in conjunction with the director to further the goals of the center program in addition to managing and directing the center in the absence of the director. Some specific duties involve planning and implementing special programs and activities such as events, parties, and trips, in addition to planning and instructing various arts and craft classes. Excellent networking skills are utilized to arrange for speakers for the center's programs in life skills, education, nutrition, tax preparation, health issues, and more. Within this role, it is essential to ensure the welfare of participants on any trip and assist them with any unusual situations that may arise. Strong organizational skills are vital in order prepare the monthly newsletter, maintain records of the center's financial activity, and maintain accurate records, statistical reports, and inventory of the center's supplies. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Three months of experience in providing direct services in a human services, education or a community based setting to the aging population or to individuals from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds or to individuals who have physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

- Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Luzerne and Wyoming County. If no eligible candidates who live within Luzerne and Wyoming County apply for this position, candidates who reside in Carbon, Columbia, Lackawanna, Monroe, Schuylkill, or Sullivan counties will be considered. If no eligible candidates who live within these counties apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
