Position Summary Information
Primary Purpose |
The Summer Custodian is responsible for general janitorial and custodial duties of Resident Halls for students.
This is a temporary position starting May 12, 2025, and ending August 18, 2025. |
Essential Functions |
- Cleans and sanitizes restroom facilities in accordance with established university health standards.
- Cleans all surfaces in offices, classrooms, common spaces, restrooms, laboratories, meeting rooms, and other spaces in university facilities.
- Empties and cleans waste receptacles in university facilities. Transports contents to designated disposal sites.
- Sweeps, mops, strips, waxes, polishes, buffs, and applies special finishes to floors.
- Vacuums, shampoos, and spot-cleans carpets and walk-off mats.
- Washes the interior and exterior of windows and glass surfaces as required.
- Identifies maintenance or repair needs and reports condition to the supervisor.
- Determines cleaning supplies required for assigned work areas and orders materials through supervisor.
- Sweeps and cleans walkways around assigned buildings.
- Performs other duties as assigned by lead or manager.

Minimum Qualifications |
- Two (2) years of completed High School education (if currently in High School, a school work permit will be required).

Preferred Qualifications |
- Ability to follow oral and written instruction.
- Knowledge of and adeptness in the use of manual tools.
- Ability to learn and adhere to university procedures involving the handling of cleaning agents or potentially hazardous materials.
- Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
- Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Hiring Range |
$16.50 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. |
