Forensic Specialist Instructor,

Forensic Specialist Certificate Program

Salary Range: $75/hourly

Work Schedule: This is a part-time, non-exempt position; hours are to be determined. This position is not eligible for benefits. This is a temporary appointment. This position is contingent upon the availability of funds.

Position Overview: Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of the California Forensic Science Institute, the incumbent will develop the Forensic Specialist Certificate course curriculum and provide instruction in field and laboratory analysis of physical evidence.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop courses and serve as course instructors for the Forensic Specialist Certificate Program
  • Prepare lecture materials and course examinations.
  • Prepare simulated practical laboratory and field exercises that include:
  • Developing, collecting, and preserving latent fingerprints, chemical processing, and alternate light source technologies; comparison of latent prints to inked or digitally captured prints; crime scene investigations to recognize, search for, collect, and preserve fingerprints and physical evidence; documentation of crime scenes through diagramming, photographing, and videotaping; preparation of impressions of shoe prints, tire tracks, and other objects at crime scenes.

Requirements: The incumbent must have a minimum of five years of paid experience as a Fingerprint Identification Specialist, which includes work experience in the following areas: Detecting, lifting, and retrieving latent prints from crime scenes; participating in crime scene investigations to recognize, search for, collect, and preserve fingerprints and physical evidence; latent prints comparison analysis; documentation of crime scenes through diagramming, photographing, and videotaping; the collection of shoe prints, tire tracks, and other objects at crime scenes. The incumbent must be qualified as an expert witness in court.

The incumbent must demonstrate an interest or ability to work in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the UAS. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or the continued employment of current UAS employees who apply for the position.
