General Summary: The Prepress Technician, under the direction of the Prepress Manager, is responsible for producing high quality offset plates, proofs, and digital files for internal and external customers, utilizing advanced and complex techniques. |
Essential Duties:
- Determine correct file format for customer supplied hard copy and artwork.
- Determine proper scan resolution, file size, color mode, image size and file format.
- Ensure correct file placement in customer documentation.
- Troubleshoot
- Perform advanced computer functions, using more complex computer software to general films. Software includes: Quark Xpress, Photoshop, Illustrator, In-Design and Adobe Acrobat.
- Expose high quality offset printing plates for the press. Expose high quality line negatives from the process camera. Expose and compile finished proofs for customer approval; provide proofs for press checks.

Marginal Duties:
- Maintain equipment in Prepress.
- Assist in any production area to ensure the shipment of completed jobs on timely basis.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to speak effectively and respond to questions from managers, customers or employees of organization.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Overall familiarity with Prepress and workflow.
- Have strong working knowledge of computers, including Windows, Adobe and Microsoft Software.
