Benchmark Human Services is a nationally recognized human services agency assisting people with intellectual disabilities and mental health needs. Our Fort Wayne, IN Office is looking for a part-time American Red Cross CPR/FA Instructor to teach CPR, First Aid (FA) and Bloodborne Pathogen training to Benchmark employees.

This position will work 16 to 32 hours per month (Wednesday's 8:30 - 2pm) to teach participants essential first aid skills such as CPR, wound care, and emergency response procedures. Instructor will utilize a variety of teaching methods, including classroom lectures, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive activities. Instructor will evaluate participant performance and provide constructive feedback for improvement. Position will maintain accurate records of participant attendance, progress, and certification status.

Responsibilities:

  • Instruct and thoroughly train employees on proper adult and child (when needed) CPR and FA skills.
  • Ability to flex schedule to offer CPR/FA instruction on evenings and weekends.
  • Evaluate employee's skill demonstration and provide feedback.
  • Arrive to training 30 minutes prior to class starting to set up equipment.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect or exploitation immediately to supervisor or department head. Reasonable suspicion of a crime against an ICF/MR resident must be reported to Indiana State Department of Health and Law Enforcement (Elder Justice Act).
  • Maintain and store equipment as required.
  • Travel to Benchmark offices outside Fort Wayne, IN to provide CPR/FA instruction
  • Maintain and provide copy of instructor certification to supervisor.
  • Maintain on-going updates for instructor training.
  • Provide prompt recording of class participants.
  • Maintain and implement safety standards and procedures at all times to ensure a well-run program in a safe, positive environment.
  • Responsible for gathering all supplies and equipment needed for classes and informing supervisor of low inventory on class items.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficient in first aid techniques, including CPR and wound care
  • Experience in classroom instruction or adult education preferred
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Comfortable with public speaking and presenting information to large group
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles

Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Current instructor certification
  • Red Cross CPR / First Aid / AED Instructor Certification
