Job Description

The Medical Director - Primary Care works in conjunction with the Vice President & President - Physician Enterprise and other clinical and administrative leaders to enhance the value-based performance of Baptist Medical Group (BMG) and Baptist Health Care ACO, LLC, an approved Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization (ACO). These activities include, but are not limited to, quality improvement, utilization/cost management, coding and documentation improvement, regulatory compliance, access/patient experience enhancement, and information technology infrastructure/EHR optimization. The position is responsible for oversight of all BMG Primary Care physicians with a particular focus on Care Effectiveness, Coding, Credentialing, Compliance and Citizenship. The Medical Director - Primary Care works collaboratively with other internal and external parties that interface with BMG such as revenue cycle, information technology, third party payors, regulatory and accrediting agencies (DNV), marketing/community relations, provider recruitment, hospital credentialing, quality and peer review committees, among others. The position is responsible for leading the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, care management pathways and best practices in care delivery. Additionally, the position ensures compliance with all federal, state and local laws and accreditation requirements. The Medical Director - Primary Care oversees all required training and continuing education requirements for BMG primary care providers. The position is anticipated to be 20-40% clinical and 60-80% administrative.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as the primary liaison between Baptist Health Care (BHC)/BMG administrative leadership and primary care providers employed by BMG.
  • Remains informed about political, government, insurance, and local practice developments which might affect physicians and the organization.
  • Chairs the Primary Care Leadership Committee (PCLC), serves as Chief of Ambulatory Staff for the Baptist Hospital Medical Executive Committee and assists in BHC Financial Assistance Committee reviews.
  • Meets regularly with third party payors to enhance our partnerships and review BMG performance. Provides input to internal stakeholders on managed care contracting strategy as needed or requested.
  • Evaluates and recommends new products, programs, and services which may be of value to our patients. Monitors current programs to ensure their effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvement.
  • Mentors physicians on value-based care concepts and cultivates future members of PCLC and the Baptist Health Care ACO Board of Managers.
  • Educates and appropriately manages interactions across and between BMG physicians of all specialties. Collaborates with the Population Health team to ensure the effective delivery of coordinated care for patients. * Participates in policy review, performs analysis and makes recommendations.
  • Develops and maintains a system that gives feedback to BMG primary care providers individually and collectively regarding Care Effectiveness, Coding, Credentialing, Compliance and Citizenship.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.
  • Is responsible for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Manage team members which include orientation, development and evaluation of personnel, and monitoring the provision of delivering quality services. Participates in the recruiting, interviewing and selecting of team members following policies, guidelines and applicable laws. Evaluates their performance relative to job goals and requirements. Provides coaching to staff, recommends in-service education programs, and ensures adherence to internal policies and standards.
  • Is responsible for the fiscal management of department; assures proper utilization of organization's financial resources.
  • Effectively communicates departmental, organization, and industry information to staff.
  • Assist in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters


Qualifications

Work Experience
  • 5 Years Post-residency clinical practice Required
  • 3 Years Leadership or administrative position in a health system or managed care organization Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • In-depth knowledge of the healthcare industry including finance, legislative policy, economics, service delivery, and trends in the insurance and consumer markets.
  • Experience with ACO and/or Clinically Integrated Network operations.
  • Competent in managed care contracting strategy and execution.
  • Ability to communicate effectively as a leader.
  • Demonstrated commitment to high clinical standards and concern for patients.
  • Strong professional, organizational, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Desire to be active in civic and other links to the community and region.

Education
  • Doctorate Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine Required
  • Master's Degree Business Administration, Health Care Administration, other related field Preferred

Licenses and Certifications
  • Doctor of Osteopathic Licensed State of Florida or Medical Doctor Licensed State of Florida Required
  • Board Certification Internal Medicine or Family Practice Required
