Job Summary

This role is within the Renewables Integration Team and supports the development and on-going maintenance of the Interconnection Management System (IMS). The IMS serves as the software system for processing Interconnection requests for generators both utility-scale and small (e.g. rooftop solar) across our six regulated jurisdictions. This role will primarily focus on the utility-scale processes such as the FERC Order 2023 Annual Cluster in Florida and Carolinas.

The team is undertaking a large project to replace the current IMS across all six jurisdictions with a new vendor product, PowerClerk. This position will work on the project team delivering the IMS project over the next ~18 month and will continue to support and further improve the system once implemented to meet changing business and policy requirements and to support further integration with other enterprise systems. The Product Analyst will work with a cross-functional agile team including vendor resources plus internal IT and business SMEs.

The Product Analyst is responsible for cultivating a thorough understanding of the Interconnection business processes and policies and working with business process owners and SMEs to document and translate business requirements into workflows, business rules, and logic configured within the IMS.

The Product Analyst works with the Product Owner in developing and delivering the product roadmap while minimizing disruptions to on-going operations. A solid understanding of Duke Energy's regulatory framework is beneficial as the role requires the ability to read and understand details of state and FERC Interconnection Standards, Service Regulations and requirements. Additionally, experience working with large software and IT systems and with data analysis, reporting, testing, data validation, and data migration are valued in applicants for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Assist product owner with user research and story writing
  • Knowledge of and ability to perform any of the following key activities within a product team process mapping, value stream mapping, process analysis, process design, methods development, performance standards & metrics development, ROI analysis
  • Track user change requests and provide post-implementation user training
  • Learn to self-configure the Interconnection Management System (IMS) to make and test changes.
  • Asist in planning and and conducting user acceptance testing (UAT) for the IMS.
  • Support data migration activities and conduct data validation.
  • Develop and maintain reports.
  • Provide user support and ad-hoc training.
  • Develop and execute quality assurance plans
  • Support change management functions to ensure successful product implementation
  • Collaborate with product team to understand opportunities for continuous improvement initiatives and potential areas to gain efficiencies or cost savings
  • Utilize data to help teams develop and implement solutions

  • Green Belt" Six sigma certification or equivalent experience for Product Analyst level
  • "Black Belt" Six Sigma certification for Senior Product Analyst level
  • Ability to define and quantify opportunities with minimal existing data
  • Experience writing business cases
  • Experience creating and maintaining visual representations of ongoing data tracking activities and outcomes (i.e. through data dashboard)
  • Design Thinking experience

Working Conditions

  • Office environment mostly, occasional research or analysis conducted in plants or field
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to the designated Duke Energy facility.

Specific Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Information Management or similar discipline and 5+ years work experience in applicable or related business area.
