Schedule: Part Time

Schedule:

January-May: 5 - 10 hours per week (1 or 2 days a week Monday - Friday)

June-August: 25 hours per week (3 or 4 days a week Monday - Friday)

POSITION SUMMARY:

Seeking a summer intern to assist the Volunteer Services department with BMC's 2025 Junior Summer Volunteer Program (JSVP). The JSVP program consists of educational sessions with BMC's medical professionals, as well as on-site service opportunities for motivated high school students looking for career exploration.

Qualified intern candidates will be interested in furthering education related to healthcare as well as deepening their administrative expertise. The intern will be responsible for various organizational aspects related to BMC's 2025 Junior Summer Volunteer Program and collaborate closely with the Volunteer Services Director and Program Manager leading up to and throughout the summer. The ideal candidate is proficient in executing a plan and meeting deadlines, as well as being flexible in the face of needed changes.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Recruit student volunteers entering their Junior and Senior year of high school to join JSVP. Recruiting methods


  • Include, but are not limited to, conducting school visits, connecting with guidance counselors, teachers, and high school administration and providing written and verbal information that can be given to students
  • Represent BMC and the Junior Summer Volunteer Program and answer questions about the application process
  • Review applications on a rolling basis. Follow-up with applicants who are missing components of their application before the deadline
  • Assist in scheduling group interviews and send reminder information as applicable
  • Assist in sending out orientation documents that must be completed upon acceptance in the program and ensure all documents are completed before the start of the program
  • Assist with scheduling volunteer assignments, detail oriented with focus on volunteer interest and availability, as well as emailing out assignment calendars to program participants
  • Assist the Volunteer Services Coordinator in preparing educational materials for the lecture series and patient scenario assignments
  • Assist in organizing team-building opportunities for the student cohort to come together
  • Send invitations to student participants for lecture sessions and speaker events. Disperse educational materials to best prepare for speaker events
  • Assist with Zoom set-up and troubleshooting with speakers before time of presentation
  • Monitor Zoom attendance and monitor chat; make efforts to encourage students to ask questions and prompt conversation
  • Maintain program enthusiasm throughout the summer so that more students successfully complete the program, and work to build meaningful connections between the JSVP participants and BMC employees
  • Collect and analyze pre- and post-program surveys to gauge relative effects and takeaways from program
  • Construct the bi-weekly newsletter sent out to participants in the program
  • Assist with recognition for the end of summer reception, wrap-up of summer program and collecting data from the JSVP
  • Disperse certificates of completion to program participants, as well as congratulatory letters written by the Volunteer Services Coordinator
  • Aid the Volunteer Services Coordinator with additional administrative responsibilities for the JSVP as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • High School Diploma or GRE equivalent, currently enrolled in an Associate's or Bachelor's degree program

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Fluency in 2 languages preferred
  • Leadership experience preferred
