Position Overview:

The primary focus of this position is to serve as a Director, Transportation - Highway on the engineering development and design of roadways, sidewalks, and intersections within the Transportation Division and lead the expansion of the group through the pursuit of highway related projects in the Indiana markets via an existing network and extensive client outreach initiatives, attendance in, and involvement in key industry organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and be involved with the design of various types of highway, bridge and traffic projects, including urban and rural roadways, interstates, interchanges, traffic management, transportation planning, highway safety, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometric layout, MOT, and ADA compliance projects.
  • Develop deliverables and provide quality control for all stages of a project, including preliminary layouts, final plans, reports, specifications, and estimates.
  • Oversee the work of Design Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Coordinate and work with other design teams and assess the activities and deliverables of the various subconsultants and disciplines associated with the project.
  • Develop and mentor the highway engineering skillsets of entry level design engineers.
  • Interact and coordinate with clients, team members, and subconsultants to successfully deliver projects.
  • Serve as a leader to our highway professionals to ensure they have the necessary support in programming, technology and talent to deliver services with the highest quality.
  • Develop and mentor the highway engineering skillsets of junior and entry level design engineers.
  • Participate in marketing for projects. Identifies potential clients and potential projects/opportunities. Participate in firm meet and greets and interviews.
  • Assists in preparation of SOI's, Technical and Price Proposals, response to RFP's, advertisements and solicitations.
  • Participate in professional organizations such as ACEC, ASCE, ASHTO and the regional ASHTO affiliates.
  • Crucial to this position is an emphasis on unwavering professionalism with clients, staff, and subconsultants.\

Minimum Requirements:

  • BSCE (required), MSCE (a plus).
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is required.
  • 10+ years' progressive experience in a combination of highway design and project management responsibilities.
  • Preliminary and Final design experience with DOT SHA projects, specifications, and guidelines required.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience using MicroStation (preferred), AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
  • Demonstrated experience with roadway modeling (Inroads, OpenRoads).
  • Demonstrated experience with AASHTO Policy's and Guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and organizational skills required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver challenging projects.
  • Ability to work on simultaneous task assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead and work within teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to author proposals.
  • Ability to work effectively with little supervision.
  • Professionalism appropriate to represent PRIME to clients.
