General Laborer - Utility Painter

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A laborer plays a crucial role in supporting daily operations at a construction site. The primary duties of a laborer focus on maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment while contributing to the overall project. In this position, the laborer assists pile drivers in driving pilings for structures such as retaining walls, bulkheads, and foundations for buildings, bridges, and piers. The laborer works closely with the Foreman and collaborates with other skilled or semi-skilled craft workers as assigned by the Foreman, ensuring the successful completion of ongoing or new marine construction projects.

This position will be under the direct supervision of the Foreman

  • Cleaning and preparing construction sites.
  • Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
  • Following instructions from supervisors and implementing construction plans.
  • Assisting skilled tradespeople in their duties.
  • Must be able to assist pile drivers and welders in the task of the job.
  • Must be knowledgeable for marine construction.
  • Maintains a clean job site, picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Participates in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The employee must have:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; minimum of three years related experience and/or training.
  • Understanding of maintenance needs of the equipment
  • Knowledge of practices and trade and be capable of demonstrating proficiency to perform the job.
  • Knowledge of operation of various types of marine equipment and devices.
  • Ability to comply with safety rules and regulations
  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to travel and work away from home at remote project locations for extended durations
  • Ability to obtain TWIC
  • Competencies: stress management/composure, teamwork, results-driven

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.

The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, life vest, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices (PFD's), or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.

In addition, the employee must also be capable of:

  • Walking, stepping, climbing, or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, which may be of varying heights and access parameters.
  • Standing, stooping, twisting, bending, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing, or sitting repetitively and/or for long periods of time.
  • Repetitive movements by feet, shoulders, arms, wrists, hands and back in performance of work.
  • Must be able to lift and carry 30lbs individually. Anything greater than 30lbs and up to 60lbs will require additional lifting means.
  • Must be able to push and pull at peak force of 150lbs.
  • Climbing stairs and/or vertical ladders of a height of 6ft or greater.
  • Working in confined work areas and/or elevated heights.
  • Adapting to temperature changes, outdoor conditions, and prolonged exposure to dusty, wet, or humid conditions, loud noises, and vibration.
