Position Summary
The Parenting with Cancer Clinic, Legal Services Director will oversee the legal portion of the Parenting with Cancer Clinic located in the North Carolina Cancer Hospital. This specialty clinic supports parents in communicating with their kids around matters related to their cancer diagnosis, treatment and/or prognosis. Specifically, the Legal Services Director will provide educational information about the importance of advance care and estate planning, including guardianship of minors, in the context of a serious illness; will provide individual follow-up as needed after clinic visits to facilitate document preparation; and will provide local community resources to support families. The Legal Services Director will facilitate a Medical-Legal Partnership with Legal Service Organizations to provide free legal services to low-income patients. The Legal Services Director will build referral pathways within the NC estate planning legal community. In addition, the Legal Services Director will work with outside partners to explore a Parenting with Cancer Consortium to include shared resources such as websites, research tools, and program materials to build a stronger national academic partnership to support Parents with Cancer.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Master's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned; or Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and two years of research/analysis, preferably with one year in a supervisory role; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience working with oncology patients and families.

Active license with the North Carolina State Bar.
