About This Role

The Accountant I will complete accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, post in accounting systems, assist faculty and staff with accounting inquiries, and manage the Accounting office with other accountant. The incumbent will need to organize tasks accordingly to meet deadlines while following policies and procedures set by the university or department. Incumbent will need to ensure all appropriate and neccessary training is completed and that the cardholder is compliant with all the rules and regulations. Discreation is required when making purchases on behalf of the division and/or faculty to ensure the best available cost and policy compliance. Must use judgement when considering available budget amounts within numerous accounts.

An employee who is wThis position is required to be performed on-site. Work is performed on employer premises or designated assignment location. The Division of Biology accounting team supports a family-friendly and balanced workplace environment. Latitude may be provided for remote days to accommodate family schedules as determined appropriate by supervisor.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of relevant experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Three years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
  • Experience in grant administration.
  • Experience working in computer based accounting system.
  • Familiarity with the State of Kansas and Kansas State University policies and procedures regarding grant expenditure and revenue.
  • The ability to work within a high-volume, fast paced setting is beneficial with strong attention to detail, organization and time-management skills preferred.
