The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Grants Manager will be responsible for managing an independent research portfolio of senior faculty members with a wide range of complex research projects. The main responsibilities will include pre and post award management, with emphasis on grant submissions as well as financial reconciliation, planning and projection across the assigned accounts in accordance with departmental processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, sponsor and institutional regulations such as attestations, effort certifications, salary allocations, cost transfer requirements, etc. The Grant Manager will act as a mentor for junior research administrators and financial analysts, providing training on grant management best practices, as well as guiding the junior team members in relationship building with liaising departments.

Responsibilities

Pre-Award management - 75%



  • Assist investigators and faculty with identifying appropriate funding sources
  • Developing time lines for grant submission and reviewing grant submission guidelines
  • Developing budgets and completing administrative paperwork
  • Ensuring internal and external administrative systems are managed and completed
  • Review of all administrative and submission paperwork
  • Liaising with central offices to ensure timely grant application review and sign off
  • Ensure grant applications are submitted in a timely manner.


Post award - 10%



  • Monthly budgeting, projecting and reconciling research finances
  • Reviewing and setting up subaward agreements
  • Managing and coordinating the proper set up of research grants and contracts
  • Ensuring research funding is allocated and spent in accordance with all applicable guidelines
  • Managing and coordinating effort and salary allocations across research and discretionary accounts.
  • Reviewing and approving all expenses, including requisitions, POs, Pcards and TBERS.
  • Managing the award close out process with liaising departments
  • Assisting faculty with progress report and necessary compliance documents.


Mentoring and Management - 5%



  • Training of junior research administrators on best practices
  • Mentoring and assisting financial analysts on any questions or concerns that arise.
  • Leading compliance review tasks such as effort reporting, attestations, validations, etc.


Reporting and record keeping - 5%



  • Maintaining internal records
  • Developing and updating record keeping systems for grants administration
  • Developing proxy budget for budget projections


Other tasks as assigned - 5%

Minimum Qualifications




  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus a minimum of 3 years of related experience.




Preferred Qualifications




  • Knowledge of accounting and grants management best practices is required



  • Advanced knowledge of sponsors and sponsor requirements is preferred.


  • Strong multi-tasking skills and be able to organize and prioritize independently based on competing timelines

  • Familiarity with Columbia Systems preferred.
