Qualifications

Education and Experience: Currently certified as an instructor in a specialty area by a nationally recognized vocational training program and experience equivalent to two years of full-time work instructing a specialty area.

OR

Possession of a certification in a specialty area by a nationally recognized vocational training program and 5 years of experience.

Necessary Special Qualifications: For uncertified instructor applicants, this position requires the incumbent to enroll in a certified instructional program within the first six months of employment and to be completed within two years after employment begins.

Overview

Summary: Under general supervision, is responsible for sub professional career and technical education instruction work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required.

Distinguishing Features: An employee in this class is responsible for instructing rehabilitation and correctional students in career and technical training in order to prepare them to re-enter the job market.

Responsibilities

  1. The DOC Career and Technical Education (CTE) Instructor shall be a full-time teaching position inside a TDOC educational institution.
  2. All DOC CTE Instructors who teach in the trade and industrial areas as defined by the TDOE are responsible for maintaining industry certification(s) as appropriate.
  3. CTE Instructors are responsible for creating and submitting a systematic plan of instruction, including direct hands-on training and job-related theory, designed to train an inmate in a marketable skill or trade.
  4. CTE Instructors maintain educational records and prepare statistical reports regarding the number of inmates completing each CTE program.
  5. CTE Instructors schedule and conduct educational advisory/committee meetings at least annually.
  6. CTE Instructors, at least annually, participate in graduation ceremonies to recognize academic achievement.
