Job Title: Clinical Research Nurse or Nurse Practitioner Position #: 831565 - Requisition #: 36018



Job Summary:



Join the Colorado School of Public Health as a Clinical Research Nurse/Nurse Practitioner (Research Services Program Director). This position is a key member of the school's Lifecourse Epidemiology of Adiposity & Diabetes (LEAD) Center and will oversee investigator-initiated observational research protocols and clinical trials, including day-to-day clinical research operations, training and oversight of clinical staff, documentation and reporting of unanticipated adverse events, and review of laboratory results.

This individual will work closely with and provide support for center directors, principal investigators, project managers, and laboratory staff.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Oversee daily operations of observational studies and clinical trials, including informed consent, data and specimen collection, and source documentation.
  • Hire, train, and supervise clinical staff (oversee training and certification of staff; conduct annual performance evaluations; identify opportunities for professional development, etc.).
  • Independently perform clinical exams for study visits; perform phlebotomy and intravenous catheter placement to collect blood in compliance with university policies and procedures.
  • Assist with developing protocol-specific systems and documents, including process flows, Manual of Procedures (MOP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and Case Report Forms (CRF).
  • Oversee preparation of orders by physicians to conduct research at university research facilities and hospitals.
  • Assist principal investigators with grant writing and budgeting for clinical protocols.
  • Participate in strategic planning for the Center's short-term and long-term priorities, directions, and objectives.
  • Act as key point of contact for coordination with regulatory agencies as they pertain to clinical study matters.


Depending on the selected candidate and position funding, this position may start as part- or full-time (0.5 - 1.0 FTE). This position reports to the LEAD Center Director.

The LEAD Center is a multidisciplinary research center situated across the Colorado School of Public Health and the Department of Pediatrics in the School of Medicine. LEAD's mission is to investigate the developmental origins of health and disease, particularly obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes and the complex interplay of environmental exposures, genetic and epigenetic processes in critical developmental periods across the lifecourse. Collectively, the ultimate goal of LEAD Center research is to translate mechanistic and observational findings into preventive action. LEAD scientists work with data from multiple human cohort studies housed within the Center (Healthy Start, Exploring Perinatal Outcomes among Children, SEARCH for Diabetes in Youth, Diabetes in Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults, Diabetes Prevention Program Outcomes Study, Tribal Turning Point), as well as in consortia such as the Environmental Influences on Child Health Outcomes (ECHO) and Discovery of Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes in Youth (DISCOVERY).

Qualifications




Minimum Requirements



  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Current licensure as a registered nurse in New Mexico.
  • Experience working with American Indian populations.
  • Experience placing intravenous catheters.
  • Experience conducting assessment of pubertal staging.
  • At least six (6) years of professional level experience in a clinical or research setting, including direct responsibility for clinical operations or clinical research.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Current licensure as a registered nurse practitioner in New Mexico, or the ability to earn licensure within 6 months of starting the position.
  • Master of Science or Master of Public Health degree.
  • Experience working with prenatal, perinatal, and pediatric populations.
  • Experience working with pediatric and adult populations with type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
  • Experience following research protocols.

  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
  • Ability to organize, coordinate and oversee implementation of clinical research protocols.
  • Ability to interpret and master complex research protocols.
  • Skilled in project management in biomedical or public health research, such as development and enactment of study protocols, data quality control, and development of reports for tracking activity and progress.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Salary Range:



The starting target salary for this position has been established as $89,500 - $113,000.

The above salary represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation depending on the level.
