The Weekend Shift Lead Deburr Technician performs a variety of operations to grind, refine, polish, and deburr surfaces of metal or synthetic materials. Knife (edge break) parts in the form of castings, machined parts, and blanks. Uses belt sanders, manual blast equipment, abrasive wheels, buffing wheels, and drill presses. The lead role takes responsibility for training new employees, mentoring their development, and performing inspections of their work, and for miscellaneous administrative tasks as directed by the Supervisor.

  • Trains new employees and mentors skill development during the introductory period for new hires
  • Communicates professionally and appropriately to convey information, deliver instructions, and demonstrate procedures
  • Operates carbide burr tools to remove excess material from parts without causing damage to part
  • Blending a variety of material types
  • Will have the ability to create radius on areas of parts by hand
  • Will be able to correct machining errors on parts by hand
  • Knowledge of essential equipment needed to perform all tasks associated with deburring as well as maintaining equipment
  • Selects type of finish specified per work instruction, to determine amount of metal to be removed and examines part for acceptability of finish
  • Ability to operate a manual machine to finish parts
  • Inspects and replaces worn belts and grinding wheels
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follows directions consistently and accepts responsibility for his/her actions and work product
  • Complies with applicable manufacturing processes, work procedures, and supervisor instructions
  • Adheres to safety guidelines and procedures; proactively identifies job hazards and collaborates with leadership to minimize hazards and ensure employee safety
  • Regular attendance on-site at the workplace is required


Required Education and Work Experience


  • HS Diploma or GED is required
  • Ability to effectively to lead, coach, train, and manage a team of employees
  • Willingness and ability to help others
  • Vocational training in a hands-on manufacturing career or similar field is preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience is required
  • Experience with tools such as height gauges, drills, and other hand tools is required


Other Required Skills and Abilities


  • Ability to read and understand customer prints, drawings, and specifications
  • Ability to accurately use mics, calipers, gauges, and other measurement instruments
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:
  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties
  • Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally climb steps, stairs, or ladders
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or knee


Working Conditions
Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:


  • Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
  • Dust, smoke, fumes/vapors (occasionally)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment


The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, and use of safety footwear is required
