The Senior Associate, Distribution Interconnectionwill primarily be responsible for the development of all application activities with various utilities, including building relationships with external engineering firms, completing task orders to engage engineering drawings/documents, submitting pre-application and full application requests via utility-specific portals and/or via email, reviewing and tracking study reports from utilities, meeting internally and externally with decision-making stakeholders to explain technical issues, provide guidance and achieve timely deadlines and move projects towards executed Interconnection Agreements. This position plays a pivotal role in the department through development activities across all distribution-connected projects. The candidate will be responsible for completing the work either directly, through, or through external resources.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop application documentation under the supervision of the senior design staff
  • Submission of interconnection application and engineering oversight of the application through the process under the supervision of senior design staff
  • Proactively address issues as they arise through the interconnection process by keeping abreast of local utility design standards and interconnection processes
  • Ensure all interconnection equipment line-ups are tracked and communicated to design engineers
  • Develop interconnection cost models for comparison of markets
  • Coordinate external engineering resources as necessary and manage the task order and accounting process
  • Review utility study results and evaluate the merit of these impacts
  • Advise the Development team on system impact costs and guide as required
  • Support Development and Construction activities on site and perform on-site visits as necessary to support the project construction
  • Train and develop junior engineers and design/drafting technicians on electrical systems design, technologies, codes, and contract document preparation
  • Review the design approach methods and equipment selection to ensure the best overall project design and customer goals are achieved
  • Support Development and Construction activities on site and perform on-site visits as necessary to support the project construction
  • Review Power Purchase Agreements and EPC agreements to ensure interconnection design compliance
  • Oversee various testing and quality assurance checks to verify the quality of completed projects

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering required
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT), or PE Registration as a Professional Engineer preferred
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience required
  • Competent with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite, Smartsheet, Adobe
  • Experience reviewing engineering drawings (Site Plan Layouts & one-line/three-line)
  • Experience with utilities distribution system design and protection
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various application portals (PowerClerk, Connect the Grid, and others)
  • Able to plan, track, and manage the development activities of interconnection applications
  • Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment
  • Analytical and mathematical mind, capable of evaluating and solving various problems
  • Capable to interact effectively across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and meet deadlines
  • Ability to integrate both verbal and written communications with interpersonal skills
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work within a cross-functional team
  • Ability to represent the company well
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage customer relationships
  • Demonstrated desire to learn about the Company and the renewables space

  • This position is a hybrid office-based role with some travel and visits to other RWECE offices and field locations
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations of time

Pay range: The annual base salary range for this position in New York or Illinois is $85,000 - $110,000. The listed salary range represents our good faith estimate for this position and represents the range for new hire salaries across all U.S locations. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. RWE considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's education & work experience, training & certifications, and key skills as well as market and business considerations at the time of the offer.
