THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Clerical Assistant 2, you will operate various mail machines to insert, seal, and stamp postage on outgoing mail and monitor machines for errors. You will determine and apply correct postage to all outgoing mail by utilizing charts, scales, and postage meters. You will also utilize a mail tracking software at each inserting machine and ensure proper bureau, order number, proper class, and postage.

Other duties include:

  • Performing minor maintenance and repairs on machines and completing a daily production log
  • Operating a scanning system to set up, scan, edit, and delete certified mail
  • Operating a commonwealth vehicle to deliver and pick up mail within the Harrisburg area and Capitol Complex
  • Operating a forklift and pallet jack to retrieve forms and booklets
  • Scanning undeliverable mail through an electronic scanning system for multiple bureaus within the Department of Revenue
  • Packing, sealing, and weighing UPS packages and preparing the UPS report to accompany outgoing packages for pickup by UPS

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • On-Site parking is available/provided.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $35,306 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (commonwealth title); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must possess a current driver's license which is not under suspension.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
