PROCESS TECHNICIAN, HIGH PRESSURE DIE CASTING (STARLINK)

At SpaceX we're leveraging our experience in building rockets and spacecraft to deploy Starlink, the world's most advanced broadband internet system. Starlink is the world's largest satellite constellation and is providing fast, reliable internet to 4M+ users worldwide. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the system - thousands of satellites, consumer receivers that allow users to connect within minutes of unboxing, and the software that brings it all together. We've only begun to scratch the surface of Starlink's potential global impact and are looking for best-in-class engineers to help maximize Starlink's utility for communities and businesses around the world.

This position will primarily support manufacturing and development of SpaceX's Starlink product components alongside a strong group of manufacturing and process engineers. The goal of the team is to develop new manufacturing methods and qualify processes to be introduced into production. As a Process Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining daily production uptime of high pressure die casting machines, including all subsequent post-mold operations. This position also involves the proper documentation of process settings through setup sheets and maintenance of process books and their contents. Other tasks relevant to the process technician include overseeing analyses, participating in work instruction development projects, and training others as necessary. Work area will be on the manufacturing floor running high pressure die casting machines, fixing the machines, setting up/calibrating the machines, operating the machines, and documenting as required. This is a hands-on production job that includes meeting goals for production, quality, inventory of both parts and raw material, and personnel aspects.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Install, commission, and validate intelligent equipment to support high pressure die casting applications
  • Participate in process development of the high pressure die casting process through parameter optimization, design of experiments, and trials that will lead to a robust process
  • Oversee operator instructions, critical parameters, checklists, and training materials for all molding operations
  • Update special equipment service manuals including BOMs, drawings, and wiring schematics
  • Recommended needed processes, technical expertise, and tooling for optimization of production runs
  • Work closely with product design engineering teams to define requirements
  • Diagnose equipment failures, collect data to identify root causes, and develop sustainable solutions
  • Ensure the correct part numbers of quality castings are being produced to satisfy the production demands
  • Lead die changeovers and startup of die casting dies
  • Monitor the process and ensure that quality parts are being produced
  • Support the deburring operations and ensure good and clean castings are provided to the finishing operations


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 3+ years of professional experience a manufacturing environment (high pressure die casting, CNC machining, stamping, injection molding, etc.) or other skilled trade supporting manufacturing


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • 3+ years high pressure die casting experience in a production environment
  • Experience in independently troubleshooting advanced electrical circuits, electronic systems, motors & starters, electrically operated equipment and making successful repairs and modifications
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Office, and Word
  • Able to interpret geometrical tolerances on part drawings
  • Electrical wiring experience and some knowledge of how PLCs, sensors, and other electrical components are wired and work
  • Experience with tooling changeovers
  • Ability to read and understand prints
  • Strong troubleshooting experience for electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:



  • Ability to work from 5:00 PM - 5:30 AM (Friday through Monday); the initial 2-4 weeks of training will be 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM (Monday through Friday)
  • Ability to lift up to 25 Ibs. unassisted
  • Standing/walking for long periods of time
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends when needed to meet critical deadlines


COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:
Process Technician/Level 1: $20.00 - $27.00/hour
Process Technician/Level 2: $25.00 - $32.50/hour
Process Technician/Level 3: $30.00 - $38.00/hour

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.
Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
