The Dental Imaging Collaborative Environment (DICE) team provides systems engineering, analysis, and technical support to the Defense Health Agency Integrated Clinical Systems PMO (DHA/ICS). This position will deploy and sustain the dental imaging solution across the DoD dental clinics. The candidate will work under the DICE team leadership alongside engineers serving all branches of DoD.

Responsibilities:

  • Work on a team of engineers dedicated to providing support to the ICS Dental program.
  • Provide Tier I through Tier III support for the dental imaging systems deployed at dental units.
  • Provide effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of dental imaging systems hardware and software and related infrastructure located at the dental units.
  • Install and configure Apteryx or MiPACS Viewer on workstations.
  • Install and configure plugins and drivers for dental equipment on the Viewer workstations.
  • Tasks may include:

    • Maintain the cybersecurity posture of the deployed systems, working at the direction of the DICE Information Security Director and the DHA or AFNET ISSOs.
    • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible vulnerabilities; configure / add new security solutions, as necessary.
    • Maintain monthly security patch installations on all servers; routinely scan and remediate configuration settings when new security technical implementation guides (STIGs) are released.
    • Build and rebuild servers and PCs, configuring the hardware, software, images, and peripherals in accordance with DICE standards and project/operational requirements.
    • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures.
    • Apply operating system (OS) upgrades as needed, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities as required.
    • Work with onsite administrators and staff as needed to accomplish these tasks.


  • Ensure that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to DHA, Coast Guard, or Air Force Standards.
  • Participate in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the team.
  • Research and recommend innovations, and where possible automate approaches for system administration tasks; identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale.
  • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
  • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures; coordinate and communicate with impacted Dental Clinics and Systems teams.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required; configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.
  • Function as a member of the Systems Administrator group in the DICE team, available to assist with infrastructure projects.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends on a monthly basis, periodically with little advanced notice.
  • Periodically travel to customer sites to provide on-site support.
  • Support other tasks as needed and assigned.


Required Skills/Experience:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Holds a successfully completed in-scope NACLC, Favorable T3, or higher background investigation or is eligible for an interim public trust while undergoing a new NACLC, Favorable T3, or higher background investigation.
  • Must have at least one of the following credentials: CCNA-Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, CND, SSCP.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience as a Systems Administrator/Engineer.
  • MS Windows Server or MS SQL Server certification.
  • Experience with DoD Cyber Security compliancy tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Active Secret clearance.
  • MCSE certification or equivalent.
  • Experience working in a distributed PACS environment.
  • Experience with Medicor Imaging's MiPACS Storage Server Manager and Client Viewer.
  • Experience with Apteryx XrayVision DCV Viewer and XVHost PACS server.
  • Experience with dental modalities both intraoral and extraoral.
  • Experience with VMware.
  • Experience with Trellix, MECM, SCAP, Nessus, ACAS, and eMASS.


Physical and/or Mental Qualifications:

  • Effectively communicate with customers, stakeholders, and technical specialists.
  • This work requires that an individual position themselves to access computer and related equipment connections and be able to transport objects or equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
