University of Missouri - Kansas City At KCUR, we take pride in offering interns the opportunity to develop journalism skills, but also to experience the working life of a journalist by embedding with a dynamic, hardworking group of professionals. Our expectations are high, but we're committed to teaching and mentoring those willing to work hard. Visit the KCUR website to learn more about the KCUR Aviva Okeson-Haberman Internship Program. Job Description
KCUR Studios interns get to work with a team of producers, reporters and hosts to create daily, weekly and seasonal podcasts. KCUR Studios produces the station's on-demand content. Regular podcasts include our daily news podcast Kansas City Today and our monthly history podcast A People's History of Kansas City. We also produce limited series like Overlooked, Seeking A Scientist, and Hungry for MO. Interns gain experience working with a team of producers, reporters and hosts, mixing sound, pulling tape, playing with sound design, scripting, and writing promos. In addition, interns will be asked to think of creative ways for our podcasts to engage and reach new audiences. Interns may also be asked to help produce video and social media content. Shift
This is a temporary, full-time, 40 hours per week internship position. Internships are non-benefit eligible. Session start and end dates may be negotiable, depending on the intern's circumstances, but training and other events are built according to the following schedule. Summer program: June 9-Aug. 22, 2025 Preferred Qualifications
Since audio editing is such an important part of this internship, the strongest applicants will be those with existing familiarity with Adobe Audition. Anticipated Hiring Range
Internships pay $15 per hour and are non-benefit eligible positions. Interns may receive academic credit if an agreement is made between KCUR and the intern's college or university. Application Materials
Please upload a cover letter, resume, a list of three professional and/or academic references and a work sample to their application. A work sample can be a writing sample or other materials, including produced audio or video pieces and published articles. Material may be submitted by providing web links in the application packet. Application materials should be combined into a single PDF file (no Word documents, please). Applicants who do not submit as a single PDF file will be asked to resubmit their materials by the deadline. Incomplete and late applications will not be accepted. Need help getting started on a cover letter? Check out this guide on "How to write a cover letter for a journalism job or internship" from NPR's free training website, which has tons of great resources to learn about radio and digital journalism.
