POSITION TITLE: FACULTY, SOCIOLOGY
STATUS:Full time Tenure Track
DEPARTMENT: Social & Behavioral Sciences

REPORTS TO: Department Chair
PLACEMENT: Placement on salary schedule is dependent on qualifications.
HIRING RANGE: Qualifications include education and related work experience.

POSITION SUMMARY

This is a Full-Time tenure position at a community college. Must be able to adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a normal load. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Fifteen (15) contact hours per semester; thirty (30) contact hours per year of assigned introductory and advanced classes in Sociology; five (5) office hours per week is required.
2.Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
3.Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
4.Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
5.Assist students with academic advising when necessary.
6.Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
7.Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
8.Teach at other campus sites as needed.
9.Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
10.Maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to teach the assigned course load and keep informed of developments in related areas.
11.Collaborate with colleagues to address teaching and community needs.
12.Implement a teaching style and utilize instructional technologies that will best meet student needs and accomplish the objectives of the Social and Behavioral Sciences Department

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Master's Degree in Sociology.
2.Two years (2) experience teaching at the college level.
3.Ability to teach a range of courses in Sociology.
4.Familiarity with online, hybrid, and in-person instructional methods.
5.Experience in course development, assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
6.Experience with traditional and non-traditional students from diverse backgrounds.
7.Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
8.Demonstrated commitment to JJC's core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Doctorate in Sociology.
2.Completion of an additional 18 graduate-level credit hours in another Social and Behavioral Science discipline, demonstrating the versatility to teach in two distinct but related areas within the field.
3.Demonstrated multicultural competence.
4.Proficiency in technology for teaching, such as learning management systems (i.e. Canvas).
