General Summary

Vertex's Data, Technology and Engineering (DTE) team is seeking a technology operations leader to join our Project Management and Strategic Operations group. Project Management and Strategic Operations is charged with streamlining and simplifying the work of our data and technology teams and ensuring the successful deployment of new technologies across our global enterprise. The Associate Director, Strategic Operations - Technology will tackle the toughest challenges of how we work across DTE and cross-functionally to deploy technologies that scale our business. This role requires close partnership with technology leaders to identify gaps, design and implement improved processes, monitor outcomes and communicate results to our head of Project Management and Strategic Operations and our Chief Information Officer as well as other leaders. Our aim is to design processes that ensure disciplined execution without creating unnecessary bureaucracy so that our teams can continue to innovate and deliver with agility, speed, and quality. This role requires a strong technical and operations background, exceptional communication skills, and a disciplined mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading strategic initiatives to improve DTE operations by reducing complexity, ensuring discipline, and streamlining activities

  • Generating and refining process improvement ideas for DTE derived from observing how we work, thinking critically about observations, and developing ideas for improvement with input from our extended DTE LT community.

  • Communicating operational performance, delivering presentations directly to and collecting feedback from to DTE leadership team including Chief Information Officer

  • Development and /or management of processes including: cross-functional integrated planning and prioritization, technology deployment stage gate reviews, communications for technology change management, executive technology portfolio reviews, and resource time tracking

  • Managing execution, monitoring, and communication of technology operations processes - including capturing and reporting on metrics of operational performance

  • Maintaining repository of technology roadmaps, deployments and their impact

  • Technology operations management to ensure coordination across DTE functions in delivering technology for Vertex

Qualifications:

  • BS and 8 years of experience in operations management, management consulting, or a similar domain, preferably in the biotechnology industry; OR MBA or advanced degree in computer science or a related disciplineand 6 years of experience in the above domains

  • Strong knowledge of technology management including enterprise system deployment

  • Exceptional structured thinking, quantitative and communication skills including the development of executive-ready presentations and communications

  • Exceptional collaboration skills with a proven track record of working cross-functionally with technologists and business leaders to ensure alignment

  • Proactive and adaptive mindset with the willingness to take on new challenges and intrinsic curiosity to learn and develop expertise in new areas

  • Clear and succinct written and verbal communication is strongly preferred

Flex Designation:

Hybrid-Eligible Or On-Site Eligible

Flex Eligibility Status:

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
