Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Head Stock Clerk for the Chem & Chemical Biology Department within the School of Arts & Sciences.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Manages the stockroom services for the Douglass Instructional Teaching Labs, and provides coverage for the Livingston Teaching Labs including summer and winter sessions and other support and guidance as required. Responsible for the efficient and safe running of the teaching labs including proper chemical handling storage and disposal, in accordance with Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety regulations.
  • Tracks chemical and lab supply inventories assuring stocking levels are appropriate for each semester's courses, obtains quotes & requests orders as needed, tracks deliveries and organizes inventory.
  • Preps solutions, handles the check-in & check-out process, assignment of students lockers, distributes chemicals as needed during the class and assures proper cleanup.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots scientific equipment and building conditions that affect the classes' efficacy, and calls for service from 3rd parties and/or Facilities as required. Provides back up coverage to the CCB stockroom on Busch.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • A high school/vocational school education or equivalent.
  • Three years of varied experience in maintaining an inventory and the ability to group lead.

Certifications/Licenses
  • Use of personal vehicle in order to travel for business demands; a valid driver's license would be required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must have mathematical skills and knowledge of shipping, receiving, inventory control, ordering, expediting, storeroom management, and hazardous and general material safety practices.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds.
  • The ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Must have effective client service skills.
  • May require demonstrated knowledge of inventory maintained in a specified scientific area.
  • Driver's License required, two years driving experience, and successful completion of the Rutgers Defensive Driving Course.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, or related physical science field.
  • Lab Safety training and knowledge of proper chemical handling regulations preferred.

Equipment Utilized
  • Lab balances, HPLCs, lab hoods.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must be able to lift up to 70 lbs; must be able to walk up and down stairs while carrying items; requires setting up lab space and equipment efficiently, transporting chemicals and equipment in and out of lab space for each course.
Special Conditions

  • Schedule flexibility is critical, as courses are not always held during standard business hours; evening hours required.
  • Clean Driving Record.
