Responsibilities
Medical Records Technician Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183 bed acute care and residential facility. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. Poplar Springs Hospital is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. The MRT is responsible for providing service to a variety of customer groups, including but not limited to: physicians, allied health professionals, hospital emergency departments, convenience care centers, other health care providers, schools, social service and mental health agencies, police, courts, employers and the public at large. The Coordinator will provide support to the counselors, answers phones, take initial assessment notes; which may or may not include admission to any Poplar Springs Program. Verification of insurance and completion of final census. Performs other duties as assigned. Hours will vary and applicants need to have flexibility with his/her availability. Maintains medical record integrity through filing, assembling, and retrieving confidential patient records; processes admission and discharge records; sets up or reactivates folders for admissions; performs audits; assists physicians in locating records. Release of Information: Faxing COC documentation daily, releasing FAX, Mail and email Request for Information to patients, other healthcare entities, attorneys, courts (subpoenas), insurance companies and regulatory bodies. Logging ROI's in MS4 for tracking purposes. Answering the phone and screening calls for Requests for Records or route to Director. Daily charting of notes and dictation to the patients' charts on the floors. Filing charts in the Permanent File Room, as needed. Filing loose documentation in charts as department requires. Boxing charts for Iron Mountain pick up as needed. Assists with department work load as requested. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
