The Visitor/Access Control Specialist, under general supervision and working in a team environment, serves as a security-oriented customer service representative for RAND staff and visitors. The Visitor/Access Control Specialist works in the main lobby processing visitors for access to the facility. The position requires knowledge and experience in security and access control principles and platforms, as well as the ability to use diplomacy, tact, and problem-solving skills while engaging with people in person and over the phone. Duties Visitor Management Process to include the Envoy visitor management system
- Issue correct badges to the correct people, document which badges they get, check IDs and citizenship, contact the correct meeting hosts in a timely manner.
- Process visitors using the Envoy visitor control system. Determine when to call for assistance and when to grant access; understand how to troubleshoot basic issues for the check in process.
Access Control and Security
- Ensure only authorized personnel are granted access to the facility and all badges are returned at the end of the day. Monitor the main lobby activity and assist employees and visitors as needed.
- Create badges and add modify access control card for employees and visitors.
- Ability to maintain situational awareness in hectic environments.
Customer Service
- Be polite and courteous, focus on customer service excellence
- Must be willing to work extended hours if needed
- Provide assistance to all visitors to RAND to ensure they have a pleasant experience.
- Answer and direct calls to the appropriate departments/employees. Create power point presentations, assist with document reviews and policy development
- Other duties as assigned.
Education High school diploma or GED required. BS/BA degree preferred. Experience At least 3 years of relevant experience required. At least 6 years of relevant experience preferred. Basic Qualifications
- Basic PC skills
- Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft suite of applications including Outlook Teams, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to learn different platforms
- Excellent verbal and good written/typing skills. Knowledge of Lenel system
- Knowledge of operator phone system usage
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to teach and assist the general public on sign in systems
- Knowledge of the National Industrial Security Program
- Experience working in the defense and intelligence community industry
- Knowledge of 32 CFR Part 117 the NISPOM Rule and Visitor Control requirements
- Knowledge of Export Control restrictions and policy ITAR and EAR regulations.

- Ability to trouble shoot problems and identify alternatives to ensure continued support and excellent visitor experience.
- Ability to learn telephone system usage, speak clearly and professionally

Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer experience working in visitor control for protected facilities
- Knowledge of the Defense Information Security System (DISS), SIMS Database and eApp are preferred
