Job Summary

Provides technical expertise in the area of forensic biology through activities including but not limited to design and delivery of scientific experiments; instrumentation and materials readiness activities; and quality assurance activities. Provides support for technical content development and assists in instruction delivery. Conducts research, testing, and evaluation activities and formal presentation of findings as required.

  • Provides technical expertise in the area of forensic biology through activities including but not limited to design and delivery of scientific experiments; instrumentation and materials readiness activities; and quality assurance activities.
  • Provides support for project planning activities including identification or site/location, contract resources, materials, equipment, etc.
  • Performs project closeout activities including assistance with final reports and/or internal documentation in partnership with contracts administration.
  • Partners with Forensic Biology Section Leader to identify instructional objectives, design program of instruction, and establish evaluation criteria.
  • Provides support for technical content development and/or accuracy review for training and technical materials.
  • Develops and implements practical exercises and training scenarios that maintain relevancy with current customer operations.
  • Partners with instructional design team as needed to develop appropriate job aides and hands-on exercises. Carries out instruction and training activities for classroom, laboratory, and e-learning environments.
  • Engages with students for learning support, progress evaluation, coaching and remedial learning, and required documentation.
  • Reviews and analyzes course evaluations to identify and implement appropriate material revisions along with efficiency/effectiveness improvements.
  • Ensures course-related supplies and materials are maintained in compliance with government contracts, order procurement, and inventory control procedures.
  • Prepares course materials, scenario/exercise setup, instrumentation readiness, sample and reagent preparation, etc.
  • Represents NFSTC and the University as a subject matter expert in forensic DNA as requested.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biochemistry, biology, forensic sciences or related field with five (5) years of experience in a forensic laboratory OR Master's Degree in biochemistry, biology, forensic sciences or related field with three (3) years of forensic laboratory experience.

Departmental Requirements

Eligibility for Security Clearance issued by the Department of Defense.

Desired Qualifications

  • Working proficiency with laboratory instrumentation and chemistries such as: ABI 3130/3500, Yfiler, Globalfiler/Fusion, Automate/EZ1 Robot, PrepFiler chemistries, ABI 7500, ABI Genemapper-X software, Rapid DNA instrumentation.
  • Working experience in providing both In-person and virtual Forensic Biology training to military personnel and DNA analysts.
