Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Contracting Manager, performs professional purchasing work for procurement of equipment (including capital equipment), supplies, and services of highly complex technical and specialized items which are designed and manufactured exclusively to meet the University's specific needs and specifications. Incumbent will independently handle difficult negotiations with vendors and requires extensive knowledge of sources of supply, interpretations of specifications, and possible substitutions. Promotes the most effective use of funds in the acquisition of assigned commodities in accordance with policies and procedures. Work is reviewed in terms of meeting specific turnaround times, goals, and objectives. May supervise the work of other purchasing staff.

Required Qualifications:

  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Strong customer service orientation as demonstrated by the ability to respond proactively and positively to customer service needs and problems.
  • In depth ability to analyze, interpret and research essential information from multiple sources.
  • Full knowledge of the purchasing function.
  • Effective interpersonal skills required to establish and maintain credibility and working relationships with vendors, colleagues and client groups.
  • Demonstrated experience with process analysis, systems analysis, process architectures and systems analysis methodologies and practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advanced skills in the use of ERP / financial systems (such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, SAP, etc.)
  • Advanced level of proficiency in the use of standard spreadsheet and word processing software
  • Ability to communicate complex information to others verbally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of UC procurement policies, the organization's departments and operations and Federal Acquisition Regulations
