About the Role: We are looking for an experienced Scientist/Technologist to join our Chromatography Products team. In this role, you will apply scientific fundamentals to plan and execute technical work in the design, development, and ongoing commercial/customer support of new and derivative affinity capture membrane products targeting multiple classes of biomolecules, using diverse libraries of novel affinity ligands provided by a strategic industry-leading external partner as well as other suppliers. You will champion and support technical projects across a range of complexities and focus areas. You may also be involved in identifying new markets and growth areas for the Chromatography Products Platform. This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs. Relocation assistance may be offered for this role. Pay and Benefits:
- $135,000.00 - $235,000.00 per year
- Roles above $150k are eligible for the variable pay program each fiscal year, based on defined business performance metrics.

Responsibilities:
- Drive initial scouting/evaluation of new ligands for ability to covalently bond and determine attachment efficiency onto GORE affinity membrane products, leveraging existing and (as needed) develop new surface functionalization and chemistry pathways within the Chromatography Product Platform
- Drive the development and refinement of new ligand-membrane product test methods and characterization techniques in partnership with other functions and lattice of materials & chemistry SMEs across the Enterprise
- Rapidly respond to customer technical inquiries regarding affinity capture / surface chemistry performance of products at customer sites, coordinating with Product Specialist and Technical Leader; includes at times replicating customer use scenarios internally and conducting experimentation to guide technical recommendations
- Document findings and recommendations within both the Gore Technical Library and PharmBIO Products Regulated Quality System (as appropriate)
- Communicate externally with strategic ligand partners/suppliers and customers, and communicate internally with stakeholders to enable effective transfer of new ligand-membrane products from technical feasibility through product feasibility and product commercialization
- Work hands-on to identify critical uncertainties, design targeted experiments, rapidly build new prototypes, assess fitness-for-use, and analyze data to enable commercialization, scale up, and support of existing products.
- Understand and evaluate performance of relevant competitive product alternatives as opportunities arise
- Obtain intellectual property protection (patents, trade secrets, etc.) as opportunities arise
- Continuously develop your professional technical skills through formal training provided by Gore and coaching/mentoring provided by your leaders and teammates
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of M.S. degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with minimum 5 years of experience in product, process, or materials development post-graduation
- Demonstrated ability to critically and creatively apply scientific fundamentals to the practice of synthetic chemistry and associated product & process development
- Experience working with chemicals and chemical processing unit operations at various scales (lab, production)
- Demonstrated ability to research scientific literature to thoroughly understand state-of-the-art and apply findings to guide hypothesis generation, empirical approach, understand related / competitive products, and maximize return on experimental investments
- Demonstrated ability to understand, apply, and interpret a wide variety of analytical techniques to characterize materials while working with analytical subject matter experts
- Demonstrated ability to design & execute experiments and ability to apply statistics, where appropriate, to drive data-based decision making
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize, plan, and drive multiple projects concurrently from development to completion against agreed upon timelines and deliverables
- Demonstrated ability to document, communicate, and present technical bodies of work
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact with and influence cross-functional teams, as well as work independently
- Demonstrated ability to work hands-on in all aspects of project work
- Ability to travel periodically (<15%)
Desired Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, or Chemical Engineering with minimum 10 years of experience in product, process, or materials development post-graduation
- Experience working within a quality system
