BID/JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Architect IV Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities Accessibility Compliance Unit Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies pending budget approval possible) Starting Salary: $96,516 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. Select your correct bargaining unit FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS WILL RESULT IN A REJECTED BID APPLICATION Applications for this position will be accepted until 11:59pm CDT on 03/03/2025 Join the Mayor's Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD) and work on the Accessibility Compliance Unit with a full team of architects on architectural accessibility citywide. This role performs complex professional duties ensuring architectural accessibility in connection with code compliance, design, new construction and renovation of large-scale projects for buildings, facilities and structures, and performs related duties as required. ESSENTIAL DUTIES * Reviews complex architectural plans and designs for construction and renovation projects of a large scale and scope to ensure adherence to accessibility code and technical requirements. * Occasionally participates in site visits to determine project accessibility requirements. * Provides technical assistance to architects on the preparation of documents for design review. * Meets with departmental staff to determine correct interpretations for the accessibility sections of the Chicago Building Code and Illinois Accessibility Code. * Leads department pre-permit virtual meetings to discuss architectural requirements and review drawings with architects. * Tracks and maintains required documentation for reviews and technical assistance provided. * Answers phone calls and emails related to architectural accessibility and provides feedback for accessibility requirements and other technical assistance. * Participates in interdepartmental meetings to represent MOPD regarding accessibility questions. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture plus three years of professional architectural work experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met. SELECTION REQUIREMENTS This position requires applicants to complete an interview that will include a skills assessment test. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral or written parts of the interview will be selected.
THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE * Reviewing building plans: You'll be reviewing drawings and making sure that the Architect follows all the requirements for accessibility. * Helping architects: Together with your colleagues, you'll be a go-to expert on building accessibility within the City of Chicago, giving advice to architects and other stakeholders on how to make their designs as accessible as possible for everyone. * Answering questions: You'll be a friendly voice on the phone and email, helping people understand the accessibility requirements. * Working with a team: You'll be part of a great group that is dedicated to making our city more inclusive. * If you have a strong interest in accessibility and enjoy working with people and reviewing drawings, this may be a very good job opportunity for you.
