Position Overview
The Access Management Manager proactively leads the Access Management unit, ensuring high service levels, compliance, and security within the university's IT infrastructure. This role encompasses supervising staff, managing daily operations, and overseeing secure and efficient user access to the University of Kansas's enterprise systems.
Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), this position safeguards the integrity of academic and administrative systems by adhering to strict access and security protocols. The Access Management Manager is a key advisor for access-related issues and collaborates with security and technical teams to enhance processes and system documentation.

This role emphasizes leadership, innovation, and a strong focus on data security and customer satisfaction, ensuring alignment with KU, state, and industry standards while protecting the university's data assets.

Due to complex state employment laws, the University of Kansas may be unable to hire fully remote workers for this position outside of Kansas. Specifically, we cannot currently offer employment to candidates residing in the following states: California and Delaware. Job Description
35% - Leadership & Supervision
  • Provide operational oversight for the Access Management unit.
  • Directly manage and develop staff including evaluations, training, and mentorship.
  • Approve time records and address disciplinary issues as needed.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
35% - Access Management & Security Operations
  • Oversee the creation, maintenance, and revocation of user access for enterprise systems, including email, web servers, and databases.
  • Implement security controls to ensure only authorized users have access to sensitive data.
  • Monitor and report access violations following established protocols.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure proper approvals and compliance with security policies.
  • Maintain distribution lists, groups, and access permissions in accordance with enterprise standards.
20% - Consulting & Problem Resolution
  • Act as a subject matter expert for access management, consulting with faculty, staff, students, and technical teams.
  • Resolve complex access issues, escalating as necessary to appropriate technical staff.
  • Enhance system documentation and contribute to a knowledge base for improved support.
  • Provide guidance to IT teams on system access policies and best practices.
10% - Special Projects & Collaboration
  • Participate in and lead special projects as assigned by the CISO.
  • Represent Access Management in meetings and contribute to project discussions.
  • Stay updated on emerging access management technologies and practices.

Position Requirements
This position is hybrid - working one day per week in office at the Lawrence, KS campus and the rest remotely.

Required Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma/ GED and seven (7) years of relevant professional experience or an Associate's degree and five (5) years of relevant professional experience or a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  2. One (1) year in a supervisory and/or progressively responsible management role.
  3. Three (3) years of experience in customer service, computer support, or system access management.
  4. Three (3) years of experience with database or spreadsheet management for detailed record-keeping.
  5. Three (3) years of team collaboration experience for implementing or delivering work products.
  6. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Working knowledge of command-line interfaces as evidenced by application materials.
  2. Familiarity with higher education environments as evidenced by application materials.
  3. Completion of a formal Customer Service training program as evidenced in application materials.
  4. Three (3) years of experience developing or maintaining end-user documentation or knowledge bases.
  5. Basic understanding of networking principles as evidenced by application materials.
  6. Prior hands-on experience with Active Directory, Novell eDirectory, or LDAP as evidenced by application materials.
  7. Demonstrated experience in account management using standardized procedures as evidenced by application materials.
