Energy Systems Analyst Postdoctoral Research Associate

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a well-qualified Postdoctoral Research Associate in electrical engineering or comparable disciplines for the Energy and Water Systems Analysis group reporting to the project investigator. This postdoctoral researcher will focus on techno-economic assessment and grid integration of hydropower, batteries, and other power system assets. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off.

You are expected to be a strong asset to our interdisciplinary R&D team and work both alone and as a team member. In addition to being able to efficiently complete work as directed by project managers and principal investigators, an excellent postdoctoral researcher will be creative, and proactive. Bringing new perspectives will help our group propose innovative ideas, overcome barriers, and maximize the impact of our work.

The position entails writing scientific manuscripts for journal publication and presenting research results at conferences and meetings, so strong communication skills are required.

Minimum Requirements:

• PhD in Electrical Engineering, Economics or comparable disciplines.
• PhD requirements must be completed by commencement of appointment and within the previous 5 years.
• Demonstrated oral and published written communication skills in English

Desired Requirements:

• Understanding of grid integration issues like frequency control and resource adequacy.
• Expertise in economic modeling of large, capital-intensive projects.
• Practical experience with a utility or independent system operator.
• Proficiency in Python.
• Experience developing optimization models.
• Proposal writing experience.
• Previous work on the interactions between the grid and other critical systems.
• Understanding of the non-monetary costs and benefits of power generation.

Job Information:

• The target salary for this position is $101,196.00 Annually. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
• TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
