| Primary Purpose of the Position |
The Department of Biological Sciences in the College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (
CASE) at Winston-Salem State University (
WSSU) invites applications for a nine-month, full-time non-tenure track Biology Lecturer position beginning August 2025. Successful candidates will teach a variety of introductory and upper-division biology courses, which include General Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, Histology, Genetics, and Molecular Biology. The teaching assignments will include undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses for biology majors, health sciences programs, nursing majors, and general education biology courses for non-majors. All candidates are expected to serve as academic advisors and mentors. Service expectations include participation in departmental, College, and university service as well as engage in service to the professional discipline and the larger Winston-Salem and Forsyth County community.
The Department of Biological Sciences provides programs for students in Biology resulting in a Bachelor of Science degree. Biological Sciences also supports other schools/departments in the University with courses needed by their students. These include Health and Exercise Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Physical Therapy and Nursing. |

We seek exceptional candidates who demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching biological sciences to undergraduate students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. The following qualifications and skills are required:
- A Ph.D. in biology or related biological sciences (physiology, molecular biology) from an accredited graduate program
- Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate courses in biological sciences
- A minimum of two years post-doctoral training experience
- Experience using Canvas or a similar Learning Management System
- Experience using emerging technologies in teaching and learning that engages students in the learning process
- Demonstrated activities that show professional growth and development via engagement in professional organizations and professional conferences related to disciplines within biological sciences
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

WSSU seeks committed and engaged faculty members for the Department of Biological Sciences who will perform specific duties at a high level. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
Teaching and Advising
- Teach undergraduate biology courses primarily face-to-face but should have the ability to teach in both online and hybrid modalities.
- Construct detailed course syllabi.
- Facilitate high quality, engaging instruction.
- Leverage various technologies (e.g., Canvas, EAB Navigate) to communicate regularly with students, monitor student progress, and provide feedback on student success outcomes.
- Engage with students during mandatory office hours each week.
- Serve as an academic advisor.
- Work collaboratively to enhance the strengths of our biology curricular and co-curricular programs.
University, Professional, and Community Service and Engagement
- Attend departmental, College, and University level meetings.
- Serve on departmental-level committees.
- Serve on College- and university-level committees.
- Maintain membership in discipline-specific professional organizations.
- Assist discipline-specific professional organizations with reviews of conference proposals, peer-reviewed journal articles, and other professional engagement opportunities.
- Serve on community-oriented committees, boards, and commissions related to biology.
