Responsibilities

Health Information Management Specialist

The Psychiatric Institute of Washington provides comprehensive behavioral healthcare for children, adolescents, adults, and senior adults suffering from mental health and addictive illnesses. PIW is a 130 bed, short-term, acute care hospital offering inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient hospitalization, as well as specialized treatment programs for chemical dependency. PIW has an excellent reputation as an innovative hospital with caring, dedicated staff, experienced in the delivery of behavioral healthcare. Situated in the safe, historical Tenleytown neighborhood, PIW is one mile from the Tenleytown Metro stop and within walking distance to local cafes and restaurants.

Summary

Health Information Management Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of healthcare documentation. The HIM Specialist will have an understanding of HIPPA compliance, medical terminology, strong attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. The HIM Specialist will play a vital role in releasing medical records to patients, courts, doctors' office managing, organizing, and analyzing medical records and other documentation related tasks.

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Processing release of information requests and maintaining consent forms to ensure HIPPA and other legal requirements compliance
  • Ensures the accuracy, compliance and integrity of clients records while managing and processing medical record requests
    Ensures that chart deficiencies are resolved in a timely manner. Follow up with provider on deficiencies
  • Analyze discharged accounts for deficiencies, assigned deficiencies to identified providers
  • Copies and scans requested records
  • Answer phone calls in HIM department
  • Logs medical requests into excel spreadsheet
  • Follow up on all legal, disability and general requested medical rcords
  • Provides the highest quality customer service based on the hospital's Service Excellence program standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned/required by this position.

Qualifications

Specialized Skills and Knowledge:

Bachelors in Health Information Management

Basic Healthcare Regulations/HIPAA
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to use good judgment and to maintain confidentiality of information.
Coding Knowledge/guidelines of DSM 5
Behavioral Health
Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations of federal/state agencies and TJC regarding medical records management. 6. Demonstrates ability to maintain positive relationships and courteous interactions with hospital staff, medical staff, and the public.
