Manager, Attorney Resources & Development
Steptoe LLP, a Washington, DC-based Am Law 100 firm, is actively seeking a Manager of Attorney Resources & Development. The sole focus of this role is to ensure a positive and productive Attorney experience. Responsible for the comprehensive life cycle of all non-partner Attorneys including but not limited to all processes procedures related to the administration of firm integration, performance evaluation, annual compensation for all non-partner attorneys. The Manager will work closely with the Professional Development Committee, Training and Learning, Talent Acquisition, and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion on strategic integration and retention efforts.
Essential Functions
  • Lead Professional Development Committee (PDC) and Practice Group Leaders (PGL) nad other relevant stakeholders on firmwide initiatives related to attorney performance and advancement practices.
  • Partner with the People Operations, DEI, Talent Acquisition teams and People Technology on identifying policies and procedures to maximize attorney retention and job satisfaction.
  • Ongoing monitoring and analysis of non-partner attorney utilization and billable budgets. Address trends with PDC and appropriate stakeholders and adjust accordingly.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of the annual performance evaluation process and recommends and implements changes as appropriate.
  • Manages and monitors the performance and progress of Associate and Counsel which includes recommending, and implementing program changes to improve evaluation and performance feedback.
  • Monitors and identify trends in the legal industry in the Attorney Development and Performance space. Make recommendations to enhance the efficiency, effectiveness and innovation of our overall programming is responsive to internal needs and external best practices.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for, onboarding, integration, offboarding.
  • Oversee and execute all processes associated with attorney personnel changes (compensation, termination, contractual changes, practice group changes, etc.).
  • Partner with People Operations on attorney immigration/visa matters; to ensure sooth processing on each individual matter.
  • Responsible for counseling and managing all non-partner attorney leaves and part-time arrangements.
  • Manage budget adjustments and accommodations in partnership with the Total Rewards Team.
  • Serves as primary resource to all Associates and Counsel on employee relations matters.
  • Collaborate with Talent Acquisition, People Technology, and other stakeholders to support Partner transition activities, including but not limited to contract renewals, offboarding, and additional support as needed.
  • Supervise Professional Development and Attorney Resource Coordinators/Managers to oversee adequate recordkeeping, attorney files, as well as the integration and addition of content into our various platforms.
  • Assumes other responsibilities as assigned, including the management of various firm wide and/or department wide projects.
Non-Essential Functions
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 5+ years of related experience in Professional Development, Talent Management, or Human Resources required.
  • 2+ years' supervisory/managerial experience.
  • Experience at an Am Law 100 / 200 law firm preferred.

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work under tight deadlines.
  • Hybrid work arrangements may be available for this position.
The anticipated base salary for this position is $120,000 - $155,000. The actual base salary offered will be dependent upon the applicant's experience and qualifications, as well as other job-related factors, including but not limited to, relevant skills, education, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, geographic location.
