Description

This is a paid internship, range of $22/hr - $39/hr (depending on role and qualifications) for those currently pursuing undergraduate degrees and higher rates for those currently pursuing graduate level degrees.

Tentative 2025 Internship Dates:



  • Semester students: May 19th to July 25th

DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW

The Technical Standards & Requirements team oversees the development and implementation of engineering standards and requirements that are utilized across all modes of transportation that Sound Transit offers including Link, Sounder, ST Express, BRT, and Tacoma Link. This intern position will support the Technical Standards & Requirements team by researching and gathering data to help inform the development of our engineering standards.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

JOB DUTIES:



  • Create databases to capture information and produce reports.
  • Assist with technical writing to support standards.
  • Analyze existing processes, data, tools, and techniques to identify efficiencies.
  • Collect and organize program file archives.
  • Prepare materials and attend meetings or presentations.
  • Perform other entry-level technical/engineering tasks as necessary.
  • Research and gather data using SharePoint and other electronic means.
  • Read and interpret information on as-built drawings.



POTENTIAL PROJECTS:



  • Research and collect project data to develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist with updates to Engineering Procedures.
  • Develop improvements to design change management processes, utilizing process mapping, interdepartmental surveys, etc.
  • Develop project management tools to streamline team workflow and deliverables.
  • Create standards & requirements templates.
  • Research and develop a training plan for standards and requirements.
  • Support creation of Standard Inspection / Maintenance / Repair Plans.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Applicants must be a current college student in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited associate, bachelor's or graduate degree program in Civil, Mechanical, Systems, Electrical or Industrial Engineering, Architecture, Project Management, or closely related field, or other technical discipline or relevant two-year certificate.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS:



  • Independent self-starter and ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Desire to understand and logically analyze data.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment on a multitude of projects.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft office products - Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Familiarity with Microsoft Project and PowerBI preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with BlueBeam or Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with Visio.



PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT:



  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
