About the Department |
The Physics Department provides: (1) High quality Physics instruction to the University community through courses in introductory physics; (2) educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students in physics through high quality curricula, faculty, and research facilities; (3) outreach programs that advance scientific knowledge. Our research programs cover a diverse spectrum including astrophysics, general relativity, condensed matter theory and experiment, computational physics, biophysics, nanoscale science, physics education, experimental nuclear physics, particle and nuclear theory, experimental optics, and experimental atomic and molecular physics. Essential Job Duties |
The Research Technician will work in a dynamic and interdisciplinary single molecule biophysics lab to understand mechanisms of ribosome assembly and other essential biological pathways. The successful candidate will apply the following tools of molecular biology, biochemistry, and biophysics to achieve research goals.
Responsibilities for the position include but are not limited to the following: Cell Culture, Protein expression, purification, and fluorescent labeling, Site-directed mutagenesis, Single molecule fluorescence microscopy, Managing day-to-day research operations. |
Other Responsibilities |
Other duties will include facilitating outreach efforts, communicating with collaborators, and contributing to manuscript preparation. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor |
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Knowledge in physics/biophysics, chemistry/biochemistry, biology/microbiology.
- Proficient in standard biochemistry and biophysics techniques, and fluorescence microscopy.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a biochemistry/biophysics lab setting with skills in cell culture, protein expression and purification, and fluorescence microscopy
