The Department of Chemistry is seeking an innovative and safety-focused individual to serve as the Chemistry Laboratory Course Instructor for a variety of laboratory courses mainly taken by college freshman. The instructor will oversee the design, delivery, and administration of undergraduate laboratory courses, ensuring a rigorous and safe learning environment for students and teaching assistants (TAs). This is a 12-month, full time, in-person, staff appointment, starting on June 2, 2025, a Ph.D. is required.This position is not eligible for H-1B sponsorship. Essential Functions
Teaching responsibilities are multiple sections of the following courses: Chemistry 1020L, Introduction to Chemistry and Biochemistry Lab, which is mainly for nursing majors Chemistry 1030L and 1031L. General, Organic and Biochemistry Lab, which is mainly for health sciences majors Chemistry 1040L and 1041L, General Chemistry Lab, which is mainly for science majors and engineering majors Other responsibilities include: * Create a syllabus for each course * Hold office hours * Answer student e-mails in a timely manner * Design, test, and revise where necessary all experiments * Assign teaching assistants (TAs) to each laboratory to ensure the proper student/TA ratio * Create a grading rubric for the TAs for each assignment * Work with TAs to ensure they understand each experiment, know how to properly andsafely handle each chemical and each piece of equipment, have office hours, and are up to date with grading * Give pre-laboratory lectures, created videos, and/or create detailed experimental write-ups * Maintain a periodic presence in the laboratories to ensure the students and TAs are following proper procedures * Convert a large number of experiments to micro-scale to conserve resources, reduce waste, and increase safety * Make sure the stockroom has all necessary chemicals and equipment for each experiment * Submit letter grades at the end of each semester Required Education
