Job Title: Volunteer and Community Liaison

Location(s): San Francisco, CA

Job Description:

Functions as a resource for volunteers. Participates in the development, implementation and management of volunteer programs.

This position is responsible for the organization, maintenance and upgrading as needed of all volunteer materials, training tools and schedules for volunteers within Children's Hospital. As a member of the Child Life Services department, the Volunteer/ Community Liaison will work closely with the Volunteer Services department, nursing staff, child life specialists and teachers. Will conduct bi-monthly trainings and maintain all volunteer schedules to keep them current. The incumbent will work closely with the Manager of the Child Life Services to evaluate effectiveness of all volunteer related systems. Will develop and maintain systems for retention of volunteers in order for staff to provide excellent care for patients and their families at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital. Supports Child Life Services and BCH Administration as needed for community volunteerism, community relations and management of in-kind donations from the community.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Provides support to the Manager, Supervisor and staff of Child Life Services with administrative duties that support the ongoing functionality of the department.
  • Collaborates with the Patient Event Manager to create meaningful and supportive, developmentally appropriate events and special visits within BCH SF. This includes seasonal and holiday related offerings.
  • Oversees all volunteer related systems, including schedules, orientations, retention efforts, communication and limit setting when needed.
  • Receives and follows up on a myriad of community engagement opportunities, including scheduling and receiving donations.
  • Processes donations and maintains clear documentation of supplies that are both onsite and offsite, including maintaining a orderly storage room within BCH SF.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:


  • One-year experience in volunteer program oversight, Child Life Services, or in a Children's Hospital setting.
  • Knowledge in volunteer services and industry best practices. Experience in evaluating effectiveness of all volunteer related systems and staff members.
  • Leadership and organizational skills to mentor and advise volunteers.
  • Project management skills to lead a team, prioritize personal and team tasks and see projects through from inception to completion on schedule. Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility to effectively handle change.
  • Interpersonal skills to work collaboratively, coordinate and integrate with others throughout the organization. Maintains rapport and professional relationships with volunteers, peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members, management. Proven ability to conduct training sessions, manage donations, and community relations.
  • Advanced analytical abilities and problem solving skills to quickly evaluate complex issues, identify options for resolution, and apply sound judgement.
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate through all mediums and with all groups. Ability to listen actively, understand varying viewpoints and receive feedback.
  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software.


Education:


  • Graduation from a college or university with a BA/BS in a related field and two years of experience in administrative analysis; or an equivalent combination of education and exp.


Shift:


  • M-F 0830-1700.
