We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Manager of Radiological Operations for the Sandia Radiation Protection Organization to lead and oversee one of two Radiological Operations Departments, each made up of three operationally embedded Radiological Operational Programs in the field serving a wide array of Sandia Research and Development (R&D) and Engineering and Operations (E&O) Missions-spaces overseeing specific Program teams and Projects including but not limited to the Nuclear Weapons Mission (Stockpile Management and Modernization), Radiography and Sandia Facilities Logistics, Accelerators, Radiation Effects, Pulsed Power and Directed Energy Programs, and National and Global Security Missions for Threat Assessment, Weapons of Mass Destruction Counterterrorism and Response, and Global Nuclear Security and Nonproliferation. Radiological Operations Managers report directly to the Senior Manager of Radiation Protection, an Organization within the Environmental, Safety and Health (ES&H) Center and the Infrastructure Operations Division of Sandia National Laboratories. The Radiation Protection Organization is comprised of four interdependent Departments that collectively uphold all 10 CFR 835 and all other applicable Federal, State, and Corporate requirements of Sandia National Laboratories Radiation Protection Program in the delivery of all Radiation Protection services across many internal Radiation Protection Organization Programs such as Dosimetry, Sample Diagnostics, Instrumentation, Quality and Compliance, Training, etc., as well as outwardly for all Radiological Operations Programs in the field alongside our numerous R&D and E&O Customers. As such, the selected Radiological Operations Manager will be charged with understanding the scope of and making risk-based determinations to lead and oversee all described operations across their Department, managing a staff of approximately 30 direct reports across temporary, contractor and full-time staff, in both Professional Scientific/Engineering and Technologist roles specializing in the disciplines of Radiation Protection, Health Physics, Radiation/Radiological Engineering, and/or Nuclear Engineering in the safe and compliant completion of all such operations. Thus, a proven track-record in one of these areas or a closely related STEM field, as well as demonstrated incremental growth in mounting leadership roles with increasing responsibilities is required for successful candidacy for this role. About Our Team: The Radiation Protection Organization provides radiation protection services to Sandia line organizations and is the steward of the Corporate Radiation Protection Program. Services provided include: translation of DOE directives and Federal rules into Sandia specific requirements and guidance; development of tools to assist in the identification and control of hazards associated with the use of radioactive materials and radiation-generating devices; providing trained and qualified personnel for radiological activities and operations throughout the Laboratories; radiation protection instrumentation calibration and maintenance; and workplace sampling and monitoring services to ensure effectiveness of radiological controls. The Organization works with the Corporate Radiation Protection Safety Committee to establish goals, measure performance, and perform assessments to collect data to support continuous improvement in the safe performance of radiological operations across Sandia National Laboratories.
