2025 Summer Intern - Data Science
Department Summary Genentech Research and Early Development (gRED) is a critical division within Roche, a leading biotechnology company focused on discovering innovative therapies for patients with serious medical conditions. gRED is dedicated to pioneering cutting-edge research and translating scientific discoveries into breakthrough treatments. This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA, on site. The Opportunity The key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Data Analysis and Modeling: Assist in designing and implementing computational models and algorithms to analyze complex biological data. This involves using software tools and programming languages to uncover insights and support ongoing research projects. Literature Review: Perform comprehensive literature reviews to stay updated on the latest computational methods, software, and technologies relevant to your project. This helps in understanding the context and advancements in the field of computational biology. Data Management and Integration: Compile, organize, and integrate various datasets, ensuring data quality and consistency. This may include handling large datasets from genomic, proteomic, and other high-throughput experiments. Collaborative Projects: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including biologists, chemists, and other computational scientists. Attend meetings, provide updates on project progress, and contribute to scientific discussions and problem-solving efforts using computational approaches. Presentations and Reporting: Prepare and deliver presentations on computational findings, methods, and models to the team or department. Write detailed reports and create visualizations and summaries of computational results to communicate key insights effectively.
These responsibilities highlight the blend of computational expertise, collaborative teamwork, and communication skills essential for a successful summer intern in the computational science domain within gRED. Program Highlights
Intensive 20-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship. Program start dates are in June 2025 or later. A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship. Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Who You Are Required Education Must be pursuing a Master's Degree in AI and Computational Drug Discovery and Development. Advanced Knowledge of AI and Machine Learning: Proficiency in various machine learning algorithms, deep learning techniques, and artificial intelligence applications with a strong foundation in theoretical and practical aspects of AI. Expertise in Data Science and Analytics: Strong skills in data manipulation, statistical analysis, and data visualization using tools such as Python, R, and specialized software like TensorFlow or PyTorch. Healthcare and Drug Development Insight: Understanding of the drug discovery process, clinical trial design, drug development processes, and regulatory considerations in the pharmaceutical and biotech industries, with a focus on how AI can be utilized in these areas. Proficiency in Computational Tools: Experience with computational tools and technologies relevant to AI in drug discovery and development, including knowledge of databases, data warehousing, and cloud computing platforms commonly used in biomedical research. Research and Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to conduct independent research, analyze complex problems, and develop innovative AI-driven solutions to address challenges in clinical development, alongside effective scientific communication skills.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting. The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $50.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
