Job Summary:

Oversees all aspects of the athletic program at Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) High School. Develops and articulates the vision and philosophy of the interscholastic athletic and club programs for DSHA by planning and providing the strategic leadership to ensure the vision is realized. Maintains positive public relations by interacting with numerous constituencies, internal and external to the school. This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains a religious atmosphere for students to provide a good Christian model and example and to encourage spiritual growth in DSHA students by sharing, supporting and integrating the Catholic faith in all activities.
  • Provides strategic leadership in establishing and realizing a vision for DSHA athletics as it pertains to the school's mission and vision.
  • Develops and maintains a comprehensive athletic program which seeks the highest development of all participants, and which respects the individual integrity of every athlete.
  • Enhances the student athlete experience by collaborating with administrative leaders and by connecting the athletic program to other key components of student life at DSHA: academics, admissions, campus ministry, co-curricular activities, health & wellness, and student services.
  • Manages personnel, to include work allocation, training, and problem resolution, evaluating performance and making recommendations for personnel actions according to the personnel handbook.
  • Develops recruitment, hiring, supervision and evaluation protocols that lead to the mentoring of coaches who understand and appreciate the Catholic tradition and academic excellence of DSHA.
  • Evaluates school policies and procedures pertaining to the athletic program to ensure they reflect best practices for student athletes. Objectively enforces all policies and procedures.
  • Develops all athletic department policies and manages all WIAA and Greater Metro Conference compliance issues. Makes recommendations to the administrative team and provides input for informational purposes.
  • Analyzes problem situations and opportunities with students, coaches and parents, addresses the situation effectively and makes recommendations to administration, where necessary, in bringing matters to successful resolution.
  • Maintains visibility, establishes relationships and facilitates communication in an important public relations role, among and between Divine Savior Holy Angels (DSHA) High School athletics, coaches, parents, faculty and staff.
  • Serves as administrative liaison to the Parents Athletic Association by directing and implementing annual strategic activities and efforts, through funding and other support to realize the athletic program vision.
  • Improves the professional status and effectiveness of the position through participation in local, state and national in-service training, programs and conferences.
  • Supports the athletic teams at events.
  • Promotes high standards of ethics, sportsmanship and personal conduct by encouraging administration, coaches, staff, student-athletes and community to commit to these high standards.
  • Educates the DSHA community in professional learning opportunities related to student athletes.
  • Administrative duties- this includes but is not limited to- all scheduling, contracting, securing officials, and other game personnel, transportation, and maintains athletic subscriptions for the department. Prepares paperwork for entry fees for events, ensures coaches and officials are paid appropriately. Maintains inventory of all equipment and uniforms.
  • Oversees the athletic facilities to include proper maintenance, scheduling, development and event management. Coordinates with the Director of Facilities for immediate and long-term maintenance of the athletic facilities.
  • Prepares the athletic budget on an annual basis and adheres to the budgeted amount. Prepares purchase orders and check requests. Develops and revises a long-range plan for the maintenance or replacement of equipment, uniforms and facilities.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Oversees all activities for all athletic coaches (50+) and supervises the Athletic Department Administrative Assistant.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Position requires a master's degree in athletic administration or a similar, related field and a minimum of 5-7 years' experience working in an athletic office as an athletic director, assistant athletic director or coordinator, preferably in a middle or high school.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The role requires the ability to develop a strategic vision for athletics and the leadership to achieve that vision. Effective oral, written and presentation skills are essential for success in the position. Incumbent will work with diverse groups and will need to communicate effectively with all. Incumbent must be highly organized, detail oriented and able to work on multiple projects within specific timeframes with varying deadlines. Proficient computer skills with experience using MS Office software, Outlook, internal databases, the Internet and email are required. An understanding of local, state, regional and national athletic competitions and rules and regulations is required. Employee development and performance management skills are essential.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; talk or hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders.

The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

The work takes place in primarily an office/school environment; however, there is some travel and limited exposure to outside elements, particularly during sporting events.
