Pay Range

$218,700 - $332,772 Annually

$218,700 - $277,344 Annually for the SEL.4 Level

$262,410 - $332,772 Annually for the SEL.5 Level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. Job Description

We have an opening for a Flight Performance Integration (FPI) Mission Delivery Leader to manage a team of engineers and analysts within the Weapon Technologies and Engineering (WTE) Program. You will tackle complex multi-physics challenges supporting both conventional and nuclear weapons programs. Your leadership will guide the development of innovative analysis strategies for current and future customers, both internal and external to LLNL.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

You will

  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of 10+ engineers and analysts to address highly highly complex hypersonic and future flight-related challenges.
  • Coordinate with future Deterrent Production Leader for monthly reporting to WTE on budget, risks, accomplishments and ongoing work with FPI.
  • Develop and manage budget, staffing, hiring plans, and work schedules informed by customer engagement, including reporting progress to senior management, while balancing time and budget constraints.
  • Collaborate with the WTE APD (Associate Program Director) and FPI future Deterrent Production Leader to align project vision, priorities, and strategies, ensuring a unified roadmap and consistent coordination across teams.
  • Collaborate with WTE APD of Enabling Technology, FPI future Deterrent Lead, and internal and external stakeholders to determine near-term strategic vision.
  • Perform quality control of team deliverables to ensure accuracy and credibility, meeting deadlines and budget.
  • Manage many parallel tasks requiring the resolution of conflicting work requirements and the prioritization of tasks to meet pre-determined targets.
  • Collaborate the NA-115 portfolio leaders and Strategic Deterrence (SD) system stakeholders to enable advanced capabilities to support current and future deterrence capabilities.
  • Advocate for FPI to attract new customers and expand the customer base, representing FPI in internal and external programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the SEL.5 level

  • Determine, build, and deliver strategic planning efforts and succession planning on long range goals.
  • Influence strategic technical decisions made by senior management and external customers based on technical expertise.
  • Serve as an organizational spokesperson and senior technical expert for Laboratory management and/or as an external advisor for customers and sponsors.

Qualifications
  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in hypersonics, weapon systems, thermal-structural dynamics, flight dynamics or related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), 6-DoF trajectory modeling, and/or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) modeling tools and underlying methodologies.
  • Expert verbal and written communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to effectively lead a team through technically challenging deliverables, as well as advise senior management and/or external sponsors.
  • Significant experience and demonstrated ability to successfully lead a small team of technical contributors with diverse backgrounds.

Additional qualifications at the SEL.5 level

  • Extensive experience and expert ability to lead, and develop innovative cutting-edge principles, theories, concepts, and technologies.
  • Extensive experience breaking down abstract, high-level requirements to specific technical development approaches and requirements, and outlining project tasks and milestones to meet such requirements.
  • Extensive experience leading complex personnel management issues, innovative workforce development activities, and policy initiatives.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills to effectively influence senior management and/or external stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with multiple aerospace analysis software tools. .
  • Experience developing and maintaining software suites to ensure mod/sim accuracy and consistency across multiple tool suites.
  • Experience exercising independent judgment in determining optimal techniques, methods, and evaluation criteria for answering engineering questions.
